I was just thinking about how much I'm struggling with nursing whereas before I've succeeded in every academic endeavor in which I invest my time and efforts. I operate from a very internal locus of control, so I'm not blaming my hardship on my personality type... but Nursing is inherently very structured... systematic... "real-world"...
So, while I made 99s in highschool, persisitent As and Bs in one of the most academically challenging private schools in this part of the US (with As and Bs often being 95+ and 85+)... I find myself at a loss... Making a D on my first nursing test (I was in the bottom three) and barely making a B on my second (pretty much average).
Anyway, I don't tell you that just to brag or something but to show the contrast between then and now. While I'm not considering changing my major (far too late for that) I have wondered to myself how much personality plays into it.
MBTI has two types dealing with how one organizes one's thoughts and approaches the world. The "s-type" or "sensing type." Sensors are very focused on the real world. They are naturally structured. The "n-type" or "intuitive type" are the creative individuals who might have a room that looks like a hurricane hit it, but can paint a mural like you've never seen.
I'm the creative type... I've done professional graphic design work.. I draw... I write music.. I write poetry... sing... I spend hours on nature photography... But my organizational skills can be crap, my room is notoriously messy, and my ability to memorize these endless assessment procedures is pretty low. I've found that almost all of my peers are s-types through talking with them and just figuring out how they operate.
It dawned on me that a large part of my particular level of difficulty with nursing is probably the very way my brain is wired!
I think the idealists and rationals are "rare", with rationals being the most "rare". Not sure what all the types those two sections make up (too many to list) but they are listed on one of those pages.
i love the mbti! i think the work of myers-briggs is fascinating!
i first took a myers briggs test in 2007, when i went to a career counselor. my result was isfp. my test results showed a very strong preference for introversion, feeling, and perceiving, but only moderate preference for sensing. i have since taken several mbti personality tests on the internet, and usually my result is isfp, but sometimes i get infp. i have found that i am quite close to 50/50 in regards to sensing (s) versus intuition (n).
i love reading personality profiles and descriptions, and i very much identify with both the isfp profile and the infp profile. so, i believe i am a mixture of both types (ixfp). or perhaps i have my isfp days and then my infp days.
i find it concerning that on the above personality website, they do not list nursing as a suggested career path for either the isfp or the infp. and i am noticing that on this thread, there seem to be very few other isfp nurses or infp nurses. i have been unhappy in nursing and i have been struggling to find my niche in the nursing field. maybe as an isfp/infp, i made a poor choice in majoring in nursing in college.
I can't believe it! I consistently score an an INFP every time I take a personality test even though the questions are totally different. I guess that means I truly am.
apparently i'm supposed to be in management, politics or be a lawyer, not an ed nurse.

I just wanted to resurrect this thread because it seemed interesting.
I am an INTJ. It explains me to a "T"...or rather a "J"...LOL. I've taken this twice before in the past about a few years apart and I always get the same thing, so it must be my true type. Nursing doesn't seem to be on it's little list of career matches, though. It makes me wonder "Is that the reason why I feel like I don't quite fit with this? Like it doesn't come 'naturally'?" I thought it would...maybe I'm missing that crucial element that most nurses have. I don't know which one it may be. Now I feel weird. Where are all the INTJs?
