Personal Malpractice Insurance

Nurses General Nursing

Hello! I am a fairly new nurse, with a year of experience. It is time for me to renew the personal I purchased last year as a new grad. I was wondering whether people feel that an RN should carry her own policy, if the hospital provides coverage?

I attended a seminar on nursing law and the speaker was a nurse for 30 years and a laywer for 20 years and she said to absolutely have your own ins. She uses NSO, so do I. As others said, the hospital attorneys protect them, not you. Also, NSO will supply you with an attorney if you ever have to go up against your BON. Also, it protects you against any care you may give outside of work (in 911 situation or whatever). Anyway, like others said- pretty cheap and better safe than sorry!!

Yes, you should ALWAYS have your own insurance.
