Percent on Practice Test vs. Passing NCLEX

Published

Hi, I am taking "The Big One" on Thursday and I am wondering about the percentages I am getting on my practice questions and how that will relate to me passing. On Saunders I am getting between 75-85% on the mixed question tests and I got a 78% on the Kaplan 180 question test in the book and a 70% on the one on the Kaplan CD.....am I ready? I am just not feeling it! :stone

If I had those scores, I would be rejoicing! :)

From what I understand with Kaplan, if you're scoring 65% or above on exams, you're good to go! I know it doesn't seem high to you, but my understanding is that scores like those are quite above the level for passing NCLEX. If/when I get scores like that, YOU will literally HEAR me singing, "Go me, it's your birthday, get busy, back it up now!" Just kidding :chuckle . Good luck!

I would really love to know how and if these are good indicators of preparedness for NCLEX. I am using the NCLEX 3000 question, and some other books that have questions and I can't seem to get above 70% on any of them. I have done 500 questions today so this brings me to a total of approx. 1500 so far and I've got 6 days to "D-Day". I know I can get in the 3000 questions by then but I am just about to go into "freak out" mode :sofahider

A dear friend took her test today and is really freaking out b/c she got all 265 questions (she also said that 3 more testers got the full 265 too) which were mostly OB and prioritizing, she got 2 select all, 0 of point to the area, and 3 math. She said there were tons of disease processes that she has never even heard of :uhoh21: . I am now like ok, do I change the way that I am approaching this and do more than just questions or what? She said they were a mix of questions worded like our school tests, Hesi, and Mosby tests. I am hoping that she passed b/c then I think I will feel a little more secure. I always did well on the Hesi and Mosby tests so I am just praying that those are the indicators of successfully passing the NCLEX. She should be able to find out on thursday the results.

I wish an instructor would post here to really know if the percentages that we are answering correctly is a good or bad sign.

Good luck to us all in taking the test and will try to remember all the relaxation techniques and diversionary activities until the date arrives :rotfl:

I would like to know about the correlation between practice test scores and probable NCLEX score- I have been scoring around 65-85% on practice tests and feel that I should be doing a lot better since I am planning on taking the NCLEX on June 30th. Does anyone else feel the same? Anyone passed that went through the same? Any study tips? HELP!!! jess

I would like to know too! I get so frusterated studying when my scores turn up low. I feel like I should be doing better! Some other posts have said that 65-75% means you are ready to test. It sure doesn't feel like it though!

I am hoping to take it June 30th too!

So, it sounds like the review books are designed to test our knowledge at a level above the NCLEX--how can that be? Everyone keeps reminding me that the NCLEX is designed to test your basic nursing knowledge and to determine if you are a safe, entry level nurse. Why is it so hard then? I am confused. Any ideas?

hi, my friend is currently in a Kaplan review course and they told her that her percentage of 65% on a comprehensive Kaplan test is a good indicator of her passing the NCLEX exam. I wish I would've heard that before I took the test last Thursday. I passed, but I sure sweated it for a couple of days....nearly gave myself an ulcer! :p

Is 65 to 75% good on practice tests or what I have been asking this question for weeks now but don't ever really get an answer. I take the PN on 7-6 thanks :)

Yes, I think this is a good percentage range for Kaplan tests. Tht is how I did on the practice tests and I passed the NCLEX with 75 questions. I am not sure how the PN works, hopefully someone will reply that is more familiar with that test.

On Kaplan cd-rom tests, I scored between 60-64% on all tests. On Saunders and Mosby tests, it was usually around 70%. I passed NCLEX-RN with 75 questions. Hope this helps!

I previously took Kaplan this summer and passed with 75 questions. Just wanted to let you know that Kaplan really does help and I suggest doing the question trainers and qbank. I got about a 58-60% on the trainers and the questions really prepared me for the actual Nclex. Hope this helps and good luck!
