Penn State Residency: Hershey Medical Center 2015

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hey Everyone,

I don't see a thread for 2015 yet, so I thought I'd start one. I'm just beginning the application process, and the clinical narrative is killing me. I precepted in trauma at a trauma center, so it was get them in, get them out: usually to a rehab. I can't think of how I might have changed their lives or had a big impact. I was able to attain great skills and do frequent assessments: neuro, neurovascular, cardio, telemetry strips, etc. and do and see some great stuff, I wish I could write about that!

I'd like to hear from anyone applying now or who applied in the past. Any pointers?

I'm thinking probably next week or the week after. Are you from the area as well?

I'm in-between pittsburgh and erie so it will be a little move for me....really excited to be moving out of the big snow!

Lol! It hasn't been the best around here this winter either. Not too snowy just very very cold. I don't think it made it above 20 degrees all of january or February!

yeah a ton of snow up here.....any suggestions on areas to live...I want to be close to the hospital but in a good school district.

I'm from Lancaster so I'm not too incredibly familiar with Hershey area school districts, but here in Lancaster County Hempfield is a pretty good district, and RT 283 runs right through it, which then runs into Hershey. The drive would probably be around 30 minutes from Hempfield, depending how close to the highway you'd live. I live in Manheim Township which is also a very good district but the drive would be longer, closer to 45-60 minutes. Closer still is Elizabethtown, which is about 15 minutes away. I believe it's also a good district - I've never heard anything bad about it anyway. I'd guess it's about average.

I'm starting to get nervous that I haven't heard anything! One of the only things that is keeping me calm is neither of you have mentioned hearing either!

I know!!!! Yesterday was my birthday and all i wanted for my birthday was a stinkin email from hershey lmao

I haven't gotten anything either it's driving me crazy! I really want to call and ask about it but I'm not sure it's a good idea- I just need to be patient haha

I know! I got accepted into an honor society and into my bsn program of choice since I've applied and I want to call and say hey maybe this will change your mind if you've already decided no?? Haha. But I know that would be silly. I've got tons of previous trach and vented peds experience as an LPN so I think that will help make up for the fact that I went to an ASN program.

Happy belated birthday kjm!

Hi guys! I have also applied to the Penn State Residency for July 2015 and just received an email this afternoon about the interview (I'm doing SICU). Good luck everyone! I am a local too so let me know if you have any questions about the area :-)

Does anyone (past or present applicants) know what the oral med test and math will consist of?

Congratatulations on your interview!!! Now I'm really freaking out that I didn't hear anything 😫 haha I'll keep my fingers crossed. If I actually get something I will be asking you locals lotsa questions! Where did/are you going to school?

Hi ashleyhaugs- I'm in a unique program in Cincinnati- it is like an accelerated BSN except it's a Master's degree, so I am receiving my MSN (only entry level RN-no advanced practice). I will graduate in May.

Does anyone know about the math/meds portion of the interview?

Did you hear from the unit specifically or from the lady who's in charge of the program?

I think it's just a general med calculations test- that's the feeling I got from past cohorts' posts.
