PCC/OHSU/CCC/MHCC FALL 2019

Published

Hi this is a general thread for this years nursing applications for the schools above in Portland,OR and surrounding areas for the FALL 2019/ WINTER 2020 Cohorts.

Post all your applications processes, questions, tips and tricks and good luck!

Thank you LalaShe for your kind words, I am still in shock that I got in, this is my third time applying. I look forward to meeting you at the orientation! I am sending positive vibes your way! I heard this year it was really hard to get an invitation to PCC essay.

Nurse hopeful7, I give you props for not giving up and staying positive and I look forward to meeting you as well! I'll be posting if I hear anything from them, but as of now I just have to be patient and focus on what needs done. I'm currently taking microbiology right now so trying to stay busy and positive. Thanks for the word of encouragement!

LalaShe - I feel that I am more ready for nursing school after being a CNA for the last year, I have learned so much. It was hard not getting into school the last few years, (I am an older student) however I believe everything happens for a reason. Again fingers crossed for you, hope you hear the good news soon! Good luck with microbiology, not much longer!

Spoke with PCC they will not give any information on your alternate number, essay points, or any clue to where you are on the alternate list. I wonder what the reason for secrecy is?

Did anyone get into OHSU but will accept a spot somewhere else? I'm wait listed as "highly likely" and the suspense is killing me!! I turned down Linfield due to the astronomical cost :(

Has anyone on any waitlist heard anything? If not hopefully you will soon!

I read threads from previous years and it sounds like they started calling after orientation. I just wish I knew where I stood on the list!

I am sorry Soman1, They use to tell students their number on the waitlist, not sure why they don't now, maybe they were getting too many people calling asking where they stood? Hopefully the next three weeks will go quickly!

CCC's orientation was today, hmm there were 36 students there for 24 spots, wonder what the odds are of getting in off waitlist?

Has anyone started their Hep B series yet? I know we are supposed to have it done, but I guess it can take a couple months, and we haven't had our orientation yet (MHCC).

Hi! I didn't get in to MHCC but I did go to their Information Session back in November. They said back then to start the Hep B. series ASAP because Oregon had a new law that you can't go to clinicals at hospitals without having the whole series done (except I don't think you go to hospitals for clinicals?)

Anyways, I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly they said it used to be that you needed to have at least 2 of the shots done to be able to start clinicals, but now you need to have all 3? Hopefully if clinicals start term 2 you might be able to have all of them done?

The timeline for the series goes like this: you have the first one, then a month later you have the second one. Then in another five months (technically six months from the first one), you have the third one.

Thanks for the info. It's interesting that they don't tell us this when we are accepted to the program. I know that it's possible to be immune after two injections, and then not need the third. I'll be getting my first shot today, and hopefully I'll only need one more.
