PBSC Spring 2015 Nursing

U.S.A. Florida

I created this thread for those applying to Spring 2015 LW Nursing. I am a returning student starting a second career. I have 4 prerequisites left that I am taking this summer. I also am taking the Critical Thinking class for a point. I took the Hesi last week to see how I would do and got an 85. I will have about 27 points for my app so not sure if I will take Hesi again. Good luck everyone.

Has anyone purchased the my nursing lab with Pearsons e-text for Pryzby's pharmacology class? I went on the Pearson site and it says it's unavailable?

I got it, but I bought the bundle with all 3. Didn't see it by itself in the bookstore.

Hi everyone! So they say to always have a "plan B". Is anyone else applying to another school for Spring 2015? I will be applying to one other (maybe 2 other) schools.

Which schools are you applying to? I thought about applying to Broward as well but I would need to take the extra Health class that they require and I am on the fence about that. I want to ask Latisha how she thinks removing the health care point will affect the average before I start looking into other schools. So far I really like PBSC.

Oh yes, PBSC would be my first choice of course. But with it being so competitive and there being so many applicants, I figured applying to other schools couldn't hurt my chances of starting this coming spring. I *was* thinking of BC as well, but their failure rate is astronomically high! How they stay accredited with such a high fail out rate is beyond me. And yes, I want to get into a program that challenges me, but I don't want to attend a program that has a mission to fail every student...a school is still a business right? ($$) So this might be something to think about if BC is another choice of yours.

I have read similar things about Broward. I'm sure it all boils down to the student, but as I have been finishing my pre-reqs at PBSC I feel like they are stepping up their game and bringing in some great professors. I actually live within walking distance to BC but I would rather drive all the way to Lake Worth to get a better education!

This is true. And hopefully you will get to make that drive;)

Refresh my memory....is there anyone else here who is applying for Fall 2015? I could eventually start a thread for that, if anyone is interested.

Thankfully, my course appeals for Chemistry and English went through, so all I have to do is take the HESI! Hooray! I bought the HESI Admission Assessment Exam Review book from Elsevier and read through it all yesterday afternoon - it is much shorter than I expected! I read in earlier posts that it is quite helpful though, with the exception of A&P. If I just go over my old notes in addition to the guide, should that be enough? As far as Chemistry, that also seemed short. Are we required to balance equations on the exam? I was surprised there wasn't much info on that in the exam review. I feel like I just want to take the HESI soon (maybe in a few weeks) while the info is fresh. I also found some practice tests online and a few things on quizlet (but most are protected sets and I can't view them). Any other advice would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

, so all I have to do is take the HESI! Hooray!

Why wait for fall? If all you have to do is take the hesi, see how you do and register to start in spring.

As as far as the hesi goes, I remember having a few balancing equations, but a lot was just the general rules of chemistry. I don't remember a lot of math questions in there. It is a shorter section, so don't have a lot if room to miss questions. Happy that critical thinking is done? I'll be retaking the hesi in a couple of weeks to try for the additional 2 points. Just planning in reviewing that book and my class notes. Then taking the practice tests in the books. Good luck!

It's all about scheduling and expenses for me. If I start in the spring, I would have to pay for 2 kids in daycare while I go to class, since my son's VPK is only half-day. If I wait until the fall, my son will be in kindergarten all day, so that's only I kid I have to worry about for daycare. It would be nice to get started sooner, but this works out better. I may take pharm in the spring if I can find a time that works.

Yes, I am glad critical thinking is over! I was happy to get an A, especially after going on vacation the weekend before the final. It's nice to have a break now and focus on the HESI.

Anyone know this answer? I'm going to be re taking the hesi for extra 2 points anyone know if I have to retake the math section? I scored well already the first time on it. Are you able to skip that part the second time?
