I created this thread for those applying to Spring 2015 LW Nursing. I am a returning student starting a second career. I have 4 prerequisites left that I am taking this summer. I also am taking the Critical Thinking class for a point. I took the Hesi last week to see how I would do and got an 85. I will have about 27 points for my app so not sure if I will take Hesi again. Good luck everyone.
Wow, I can't believe volunteering isn't going to count! I think they had a lot of appeals regarding that point.
Yeah, I would hope they would allow it for people who apply in the next application cycle or 2, since it appears that the change is quite recent. It appears as though the Nursing Application FAQ was just updated this month, and that is where I saw it. Good to know, since I was thinking of volunteering to renew my hours...my ER volunteering / physician shadowing hours from my pre-med days (2008-2009) have long since expired.
I hadn't realized there was a delay with this year's fall apps regarding the points. Was there a big overhaul of the point system or something? I am sure I will find out more tomorrow, but now I am quite curious!

From what I heard, there was a new person processing the applications. The application deadline was June 1st and it was initially stated acceptance/denials would be received 10-15 days after the deadline. Acceptance/denials for Fall weren't sent out till last week! Then I heard there were a lot of appeals regarding the healthcare point and the dean of nursing was involved.

Well, I just attended the info session tonight, and that is pretty much what Ms. Myrick was saying, as well. There were definitely a lot of people in the audience who sounded upset that healthcare point was being taken away. From what I read online the other day, it seemed as though they were no longer accepting volunteering for the point and would still allow healthcare related-work experience, but tonight she said they are doing away with it completely. That means that the total number of points possible has dropped from 32 to just 31. For the most part, everything else seems to have stayed the same.
However, she did also mention that there is a possibility that there may be a math requirement added to the degree program (so not necessary to get in, but rather, needed as part of the nursing curriculum). She said that, most likely, it would be a statistics class - but that 1. it is not yet set and stone and 2. if the requirement is announced after you have started the program, you will not be required to take it. It would only apply to people who are starting after the decision is made. She said that if it does become a requirement, most likely, it would go into effect next summer, meaning those starting Fall 2015. So, lucky me - I just hope the biostatistics class I took when I got my bachelor's would count :) Again, she made sure to state this is just speculation at this point, so not to worry until an official announcement is made.

Thank you for the info!! I am taking statistics now! I'm glad those were the only changes.
I used the Elsevier book. Got an 89 my second try and improved 4 points second time. I set aside how much time to use for each test. That kept me on track. I am spending the next month studying the sciences since I had high 90's in everything but that. Good job Jessica. Now you know what to expect next time and you got the 8 points already. 8 more points gets you the extra 2 points.
