I created this thread for those applying to Spring 2015 LW Nursing. I am a returning student starting a second career. I have 4 prerequisites left that I am taking this summer. I also am taking the Critical Thinking class for a point. I took the Hesi last week to see how I would do and got an 85. I will have about 27 points for my app so not sure if I will take Hesi again. Good luck everyone.
I am pretty confident with 27 points, but would feel better with 29.
tobs31 posted the points for spring 2014 part time on another thread and the median average for that cohort was 27. the points actually decreased a bit in the median and lower end, increased in the highest from the previous year's points. i think a 27 will be no problem for admission, but an extra 2 points won't hurt. i'm deciding whether or not to retake the hesi in august when the college is opened again on fridays. at this point i should have around 28/29 points depending on if i get the healthcare point or not. good luck on your retake. who was your lab professor? with those grades, sounds like it was dr. garcia.
... She doesn't indicate really where she will pull questions from and won't review the tests with you after, so it's hard to know where the wrong answers were. I find it an interesting class as well, online is definitely harder as there is less teaching and more figure it out for yourself...
I am also in the online class, and I agree. I currently have an A but I seriously come away from those tests wondering how I pulled it off! I think the medical terminology aspect of it is quite easy, but when it comes to the critical thinking content, it seems like some of the questions are rather vague or unclear. I really feel like the CT content should be common sense, but the way some things are phrased, but some of the questions almost seem subjective. There also seem to be some questions (both MT and CT) that seem out of left field -- things we haven't even covered yet anywhere (and I read all the text and extra materials and watch/listen to all the PowerPoints, etc.). I am able to rely on knowledge from previous courses for some questions, but not for others. I find the computerized test format odd, considering some questions repeat themselves during the test. While it's great when I know what the answer is, it is not so great if I am unsure. I, too, wish we could go back and review the incorrect answers (even if it is not until the next day, as I am sure part of the issue is to prevent cheating since we all take the exam at different times on test day) -- especially since those questions are bound to repeat themselves on a later test.
Overall, I like the content of the course and I feel like I am learning a lot - especially now that we are delving into the nursing process. I just wish there was a little more direction.

i'm so happy i'm not the only one feeling this way. i walked out of the first test confident i rocked it and saw a grade of 76 and was truly befuddled. i've had the same feelings about the other 2 tests and made an 84 and 82. i think we may have to read a chapter ahead in order to know some of the questions she will ask. the repeat questions can be nice if you're sure of the answer. sometimes i'm not, so i pick the other answer i was debating on for the second viewing in hopes that at least one of them was right.
you're in a study group with c.c. right? (initials used for anonymity). she's my lab partner in ap2 lab. small world. oh and that comment about what brings all the boys to yard (discussion board 6) cracked me up! i woke up my dog laughing, then got that flippin song stuck in my head .

Yep, that's me :) Small world, indeed!
That is so funny you mention that about the repeat questions: on the last exam, one of the repeat questions was one that I was unsure of. I contemplated going with a different answer the second time around, but I figured I better not take my chances. Must have paid off - I got a 98. There were SO many questions on that exam that I literally had to guess on that I let out a whispered (yet happy) "*****!" when I saw my score. I agree - I have noticed that some of the questions she asks seem to come from upcoming material. Unfortunately, this is NOT the first course at PBSC that this has happened to me, and it is totally irritating. My A&P II professor did that, and when I called him out on it, he tried to say "well, you should be able to infer it from what we've learned." :/ Going forward, this nursing process section seems pretty straightforward, so hopefully that is reflected on the upcoming exam!

LOL apparently my acronym (no actual bad words!) was deemed inappropriate and it wouldn't allow me to go back and edit it. Anyway, it was simply a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, if ya know what I mean. Oh boy, it's Friday!

the nursing process does seem very straightforward, thankfully. and the medical term is stuff that is still fresh from ap1 for me, so i'm hoping i'll have a better test. since i learn better by doing, i'll learn ap2 stuff better through the lab instead of the class. nothing really stuck from ap2 class which i just finished and made an A in to boot! my chemistry professor would require us to read ahead, but she put it out there that to prepare means to pre read stuff....so at least we knew what to expect.
looking at her schedule, i think she'll ask about lymphatic and blood systems on this next test in addition to the musculoskeletal. i noticed that there wasn't much on lymphatic and blood systems on the last test even though it was covered in the MT chapter.
Took the Hesi for a second time and got an 89. I need to study for the next time. Is it me or are the sciences ridiculously harder. My highest was Chem with an 88. I got 76 in AP and my lowest test in both 1&2 was an 87 with the rest all As. Anyone have any advice?. I got 100 on math portion and high 90's in others. Need about 4 more points.
