PBSC Spring 2011 hopeful......

Published

Applied to PBSC RN Program for Spring 2011. Playing the waiting game. I decided to apply to the Belle Glade Campus.....

Specializes in CVICU, CCU, MICU.
I emailed PBSC yesterday and was told they are still working on figuring out where to go for the background check. Helllllooooooooo??? Does anybody actually work at the school??? Shouldn't they have had this figured out by now? They DO realize that we have to turn this in by Wednesday of next week right?

from the emails I have been exchanging with them, it seems as though we will have a deadline extension for the background check...

but do not quote me on that.

They know it would be impossible for the entire Spring class to get this done in less than a week.

I'm not worrying about the background check. If they haven't sent it to us in time they can't expect us to have it to them in time. The whole department must be falling apart this semester, they couldn't get anything together on time! On another note: how long did it take everyone to get their titer results back from the labs? I just went to my doctor thinking that it would all be fast, but he told me to wait 2 WEEKS before coming back for my results (which obviously I don't have @_@). Did it actually take that long for anyone else? I've always had labs come back within 2-3 days... If I don't get them back in time I guess I'll just be getting an MMR and chicken pox vaccine the morning of the 15th! lol

I went to my Primary and he had the results the next day. May just depend on the lab and how busy they are.

Took me a week to get my titers results back from the health department, guess it was because of the thanksgiving holiday; nonetheless, met some nice people there.

Found this other place (MD Now) that gives discount to PBSC students, so I went there to get my physical done; they will give discount on shots, titers, physical exam etc. they are on Palm Beach Lakes and there is also a branch in Delray, they are quite efficient.

When I went in this morning to the LabCorp the guy there told me the results would be back in 2 days. So I guess my doctor was totally off haha. I'm going to give them until Tuesday (I figure weekends probably don't count) and then start calling them obsessively starting Tuesday morning until they tell me I can come in to get signed off on my paperwork haha! I guess I shouldn't have put everything off until the last second, but oh well, it looks like everything will work out ^_^

Yeah!! Background check info was emailed today. Artistdiaz, you can skip town now:yeah:

Oh my god, has anyone else looked at the prices on the books we have to buy?!! O.O It is crazy! And there are so many of them, I am afraid to try to buy them online at a cheaper price because I might get some of them wrong. Geeeze. I looked at the prices on the online bookstore, and it looks like it's going to be around $750 or so this semester... I am taking pharm too so anyone who has that out of the way already it will be less, but really... This is more than I have ever had to pay for books @_@ including other medical texts for upper division classes for my bio degree! I hope these books are good for more than one semester. Does anyone know if they are?

Hey there peeps! Question: Did anyone apply for Finacial Aid or does anyone have a BA degree already and applied for finacial aid? I heard once you have your degree you can not apply for finacial aid. Is this true?

Mars:uhoh3:

If you have more than 150% of the credits required for the degree you're seeking you are no longer eligible for financial aid, so if you have more than 108 credits (which you must if you've got a bachelors already lol) then PBCC won't even process financial aid for you. The nursing program is supposed to have some separate grants and scholarships, though, that are available to people that can't get regular financial aid. There are also the programs with hospitals that might be a good option for people who don't plan on moving anywhere far away in the next four years. Most hospitals have an option where they will pay for all of your costs in nursing school (tuition, books, fees, etc) in exchange for you signing a 2-year contract with them once you are licensed. It's their answer to the nursing shortage and to not having to retrain people when they have high turnover I suppose. I don't know if I'll be around here 2 years after I graduate so I'm not taking the chance and signing on like that, but for anyone who has a pretty stable life here it might be a great way to cut these costs :D
