PBCC-palm beach comm. college

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.

I read on line that this school works on a point system

I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program

(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO

WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.

Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.

Thanks

Hi everyone!

About taking lecture online...I heard lecture online for the first semester is terrible! since you miss alot of the annoucements that they say at the beginning of class you are lost. Since first semester is stressful enough as it is I do not recommend taking it online. I had to call my friend almost after every class to let her know what was going on since she was online. As for second semester I heard it was better than first semester! I also heard third semester online was going good. But for the first semester you really need lecture in class till you get the feel of the program because it is totally different than any classes you have taken before!

I'm presently in 1st semester online. I would definitely recommend taking it. As long as you complete your reading assignments and do the NCLEX practice questions before each test you should be fine.

99% of the students in the lecture say it is a complete waste of time. According to everyone I've spoken to, the professors do nothing but read verbatim from the powerpoints (which are supplied to the online students as well and will really serve no purpose...you MUST read the chapters to pass the tests. The PPs did help somewhat for the first test, however.)

FYI the first test in this class will be mostly about nursing theory, legal stuff, etc. Resist the urge to freak out about not knowing the material like an expert. I would recommend focusing on frontloading, getting checked off successfully, and THEN beginning the reading assignments for online/lecture. This helped me wade through the chaos. Time management is key.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the useful information! Keep it coming..PLZ!:yeah:Waiting for my registration window to open and picking classes so the information posted was extremely helpful. Any tips on books? Any books you truly dont need? O and has anyone found a good bargain buying them? Thanks. Looks like first semester is a huge investment. :twocents:

No packet for me still :smackingf I applied to Belle Glade though... did the people who got packets apply to LW?? I'm getting nervous, I dont wanna be late with anything plus I'm about to sign up for classes in an hour and have no clue if there is anything I need in there....

Dont worry nothing you need for registration is in the packet. My packet was Lake Worth, maybe Belle Glade is a separate dept.?

Got my packet and registered!!!

The first test of first semester is the easiest test you will ever have in nursing school. Make sure you do good on it...

Good Advice! :yeah: Thanks!

took me 45 minutes to register at PBCC ugh. apparently the nursing school always gives registration trouble.

anyway, I got stuck with the morning clinical. anyone else getting up before dawn?

and is it just me, or is the packet kinda confusing? it says all info needs to be turned in together, but some of it is coming from the background place, so obviously it can't all be turned in together.

Hi Pickled,

Dont know what happend for ya? Took me all of about 90 seconds to register. Entered all the course codes and hit submit, print, done. Well as long as you got in, thats what matters. I heard some classes were closed by 6AM.

I had to read the package more than once. Just take care of each thing one at a time. We've got plenty of time. Now we just need plenty of $$$$.

I know the teachers have changed so maybe first semester online is better! thats good news to all the new incoming students! Unfortunately you do need all the books. I know there is a huge list of them. But the first semester you buy your nursing diagnosis books, drug book and lab book which you will use the whole time. so every semester isn't so expensive for books. For second and third semester you just need the new lecture book but the rest you reuse. I also recommend "reviews and rationales" for medsurg (second semester). the "reviews and rationales" books really summarizes ALL the information you need to know so its not so overwhelming! it really helped me on the final in second semester.

by the way...morning clinical isn't so bad. I know it early but you get a lot more opprotunities to do skills. I heard the night clinicals there is not as much to do since most medications and procedures are done in the AM. You might get the opprotunity to go to the OR or cat scan or cardiac cath lab and they don't do as many procedures in the PM after all the doctors are gone for the day.

have you already completed microbio and did you register for 1141? Those were my problems. I'm currently taking micro at FAU and the system told me I couldn't register for any of the classes because I needed micro, so the registration lady had to check with her boss and then override me. then it said I had to register for 1141, but I wanted 2140. so again she had to check with her boss, then called the nursing dept. and override me again. I swear I have problems every semester trying to register.
