Hi all! I am considering a position at a small, 100 bed hospital in the San Gabriel Valley. Does anyone know the starting rate for a RN? I am a new grad. What's it like working at a smaller facility? Is it supportive? Are the benefits adequate? Thanks to you all!!!!!:redpinkhe

Honestly, if you have a job offer, take it. This market is brutal for new graduate nurses.

I agreed with the earlier post. Take the job!!! Get the experience or else you might be sitting home looking for a job for months, on top of being stressed and spending hours and hours of doing applications and essays.
Oh believe me-I am taking the job if it's formally offered. I was just wondering. I have been a Hospice LVN for about four years, went back to school for my RN, and have had a heck of a time getting into a new grad program. So sick of applications, essays, transcripts, eck. But now I am at a crossroad-I can get into Hospice as an RN at one company only (thus forgoing any clinical experience) OR get a job at a small hospital making 8 bucks less an hour. I feel like if I continue in Hospice, I will be stuck in it for the rest of my career. If I get some acute care experience-I am more of an asset. And I am so broke after a year of school!!!! I KNOW how very tough it is, only a handful of people in the class before mine are working....
Nurselindah, you are so lucky to have 2 jobs to pick from. I have none. Nevertheless, I cant advice on what you should do but if I was in your position, I would get a job that will give me an array of choices in the future, even if the pay is less. I really hate to limit myself in one area bc by then, I dont have a choice at all.

My friend works there. She said the hospital is okay and new grads are only at either med-surg or tele unit. Did you get in med-surg or ?
Thanks! I know how you feel-I got so many rejections I was starting to take it personally, not to mention getting depressed. Don't give up. I applied to practically every hospital in LA, and new grad programs in Northern CA AND Texas. I started applying even before I graduated. Most new grad programs won't even look at me without a BSN. I can't believe it's so bad now-just over 2 years ago recruiters were at school signing up students for work. Can you imagine? Some of my friends are continuing on with school, hoping that when they have their BS things will be better. That is not an option for me. I am not getting any younger over here!
Keep on keeping on!
Possibly med-surg, but not at San Gabriel Hospital. I tried there but was rejected. Still don't know if I have the job yet.
