I was briefly hired in a case manager role and the utilization review folks were included in that unit's structure. The hospital that I was at paid the case management staff the same rate as the floor nurses.

Depends on the company/ facility. I was paid the same as hospital staff nurses.
Many other benefits though. No nights, holidays or weekends. For some reason, I was respected much more than a floor nurse.

Do you have any insight on how to land a utilization review job?

I had a job like this but it was for a 300-member medical practice with an integration arrangement with an HMO to do your and CM for their senior product patients. I don't know how our salary compared to the hospital discharge planners (they didn't meet the criteria for case management and were not CCM certified) because we were paid by the medical practice. I got the idea it was more, though.
Search within your facility job site. Scour the job boards. Apply with contracer sites. I fell into it through a contractor site.
It's not easy.. it's one of those positions...that you need to have experience in the field to get into. My training was three months.. barely enough.
Good luck.
