I am currently a LPN student set to graduate in 8 weeks. I am enrolled in a bridge to RN program beginning in June of this yr. I am interested in hearing from surrounding areas (I am from KY) as to what Nursing jobs pay. I plan to work my way through the RN program as an LPN but whenever I ask anyone what the pay is they seem to think I am trying to find out what they make. That isn't it, I just want to know some pay scales to help me decide where I want to be. There are after all many options, Doctors office, Home Health, ect. So.. anyone got any updates for me?
Really, it all depends on the area of NJ you are trying to buy a house in. One of my best
friends bought a house in PA the same time I bought my house. Although it is very charming with lots of architectural (sp?) details, it is smaller, older, and has less land than my South Jersey home. We paid around the same price for our homes.

That is true. We're from North Jersey and there ain't know way. Houses generally start in the mid 250's. Little jaunt over the delaware and our house was 120,000.
Well, we're going to the Crayola factory (2.5yo is literally sitting on me to get me going). Have fun everyone!
There are three distinct problems you are facing. #1 is that Hospital Administration has a policy (Every Hospital) against employees discussing their salaries with other prospective employees, as well as those who have already been hired. This is why almost all nurses are fearfull of discussing their rate of pay. #2 is that whether it be known to you or other employees, Hospital Administrators Associations in every area of the country have these little closed door meetings :angryfire I think they should be made illegal, I also believe there is much precedential laws to draw from to do just that. The reason I believe they should be made Illegal, is that what do you suppose might be a topic of discussion at these meetings, that's right, "How to keep salaries of All employees at a minimum" I believe this comes under the heading of Collusion. Oh, you won't have any trouble finding out about the fact that they have these meetings, but that is as far as you will get without risking your own employment. :chair: #3 is that nurses do not know how to negotiate for their salaries they are to willing to accept whatever salary they are offered without as much as offering, starting salaries at other hospitals in the area, or saying "gee, that seems a little low, but how often will I be elligable for raises. Are there any incentive bonuses, differentials for evenings, nights, weekends? I live in Georgia and work at a very small hospital, I have thirty one years experience and know Nurses that are making betwen 50K & 60K per year as staff nurses. I just inquired with an Agency I currently work through and found out that in Atlanta there are hospitals offering between 80&90K for Baylor plan Nursing (Weekends) I have a nephew that lives in the Atlanta Metro area who I can stay with. And still receive travel and expences on top of that salary. Why because that is what I negotiated for, as well as Days Only. Hope this helps your perspective a little.
In Northeast Mississippi our new RN's start at around $16 or $17 an hour (hospital)
My mistake... I didn't look at the date on this bumped-up thread.
The only new grad salary I know of is a gal (I work with her Dad) who graduated from a BSN prog and went to work at a hosp in Birmingham, AL this year - started off at 21.50/hr
In central Florida...starting RN's get between $16 & 20/hr. After a year of experience, it increases to somewhere around $24hr. Not sure about LPN's. A few just got hired at the hospital I'm at & started at $10/hr. They haven't taken their exam yet, so I think technically they are classified as nurse techs until they pass the boards. They'll probably make about $12/hr after passing. I was surprised it was so low. As a nursing student, they pay me $12 to be a nurse tech.

Where in Central FL are you working and going to school...I am currently at VCC. I have not applied to the program yet, I have been working my way through the prereqs...I am actually looking at transferring to Deaconess (distance ed) because of the waiting list problem...
I am hoping the Florida Hospital or ORMC will let me do my clinicals as a nurse extern...

It is new so there are not many of us yet!
suemom2kay:
- If taking a 2 yr old to crayon factory in Easton, PA.
- You may want to go to their place in downtown Easton. Basically, one huge
activity center for kids that age. They even have sidewalks inside the building
that kids can draw on.
- If hubby fly-fishes -- be sure to hit up the Buskill north of Route 22.
- Sure miss being back home --- can't stand Evansville, Indiana much longer.

Yeah, but I bet your house/apt. in NJ is 2-3x the cost of one in MS. The northeast (and especially NJ) is very expensive. We moved to PA because we could not afford a house in NJ.
