Work in Kansas City Missouri area i believe pay range is from around 14-25 for staff nurses, depending on experience. after 7 years RN experience and Rn working in the ICU at the hospital I work makes about 22/hr + 17% diff for nights. Float RNs with at least 1 year experience makes about 28/hr. we are so short on nurses that after you put in your committed hours everything else is at 1 /12. example I am scheduled for 48 hrs per pay period anything else is at 1 1/2 (33 in my case + 17% differential).

I keep hearing low salary quotes from friends who are RN's and find it often difficult to understand.

I am an LVN/LPN with 35 years experience ,primarily in critical care, am certified in chemo,bmt and have acls and critical care cert.

If what they tell me is correct, that even though they receive benefits, I still make 7 to 10 dollars more an hour working agency.

With a travel contract I come out way ahead.

The pay for all nurses has not appreciated over the years. I started out (staff) at $4.75/hr ( which was great then), but if I were to take a staff position now I could state that in 35 years I had obtained a whopping $6.50/hr. raise.

There are grocery clerks who get paid as much and receive more rapid raises.

I therefore work agency to make a living at what I enjoy doing

Wow, I can't believe that some of you start out at 12.00 or 13.00 an hour. That is an insult to the profession of nursing. I live in Savannah, GA where the cost of living is very reasonable and base salary for me a nurse with 4 years experience is 20.00 an hour. Throw in differential pay and it is about 25.00/hr, plus I am always getting offered bonus up to $25/hr on top of base salary to work extra hours.

That is a primary reason why I stay agency and not agree to a staff position. Maybe, someday before I retire I shall see Texas come of age.

In SE wisconsin we get 19.00-28.50

as a base pay range in the Aurora Health Care system..no ICU diff..at this hospital

(I am in the south region).. but have heard that the metro region ( Milw area) does get x-tra $$ for icu....

we have a critical shift + bonus program..to intice RNs to p/u extra hours and if the hospital is really desprate they have a community crisis pay that they pull out to get even the burnt out RNs ( me) to sign up for xtra:rolleyes:

I have been a critical care nurse for seven years in Indiana. I make $20.32/hr. PRN where I work is $35/hr for nights. I would work that but my hubby likes me home at night.

19.62/hr. Have not been here quite a year yet.

2.40/hr night differential

2.23/hr weekend diff

1.25/hr charge pay

.75/hr certification pay (CEN)

Time and 1/2 for working holiday (up to 8 hrs) then double over 8,

then 8 hours holiday pay for the holiday.

16% more on base if working per diem.

Flex pay for insurance...I actually get some back from that because I don't use employers med/dental.

depending on the agency, I can work per diem about 2-3 hours away for 38-52 dollars/hr. (depends on time of day/week/etc.)

LPN..home for the past 15 years. Current pay is 18.75 base plus $3/hr shift dif for afternoon shift. Working in a skilled nursing facility that has LTC, assisted living and rehab units.
