Pay Rates In Ohio For New Grads.

U.S.A. Ohio

Published

I have made my mind up and I'm going to move to Ohio, but I need to have some idea of the pay rates for new RNs (BSN)

I was offered 22.50 at Health Alliance and that included my yrs exp as a LPN

Specializes in Inpatient Rehabiliation.

OSUMC starts ADNs at around 21.82 and BSNs get slightly more(not much-just over 22, I think)

Specializes in Cardiac, Med-Surg, ICU.

I work at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton. My current base rate is $24/hr with a shift diff of 10% after 3 pm. My weekend rate is $30/hr.

However, I have worked for them for the last 6 years and was an LPN for a total of 10 years before I got my RN license.

The rumor-mill at Miami Valley Hopital is that new grads are getting $22.00/hr to start. Plus weekend/shift-differential, of course.

I just got hired on a TCU ( transitional care unit) and the base is $27.50 with a $2.00 increase to your base pay after completing a skills assessment in 2 weeks. Also an increase of 11% after 3pm 12% for w/e and 4% for nites and $4.00 extra for more than 16hrs on a w/e shift. Oh and they supply your uniforms. :w00t:

That sounds like very good money. May I inquire as to where this is?

Specializes in LTAC, Med/Surg..

Any input as to new grad LPN pay rates? Particularly interested in the Cleveland / Akron and surrounding areas......thanks!

I would post in the LPN thread, but I've had difficulty getting LOCAL ohio info on that thread....Help!!!!

Specializes in ICU/SDU.

I'm at a small local hospital in the mentor area and I make 22.89 plus a dollar shift differential for anything after 3pm until 7am.

Specializes in Acute care, Community Med, SANE, ASC.

For central Ohio I can give you starting rates for two of the major hospital systems: 21.86 for one and 22.75 for the other. I don't know what the OSU system pays.

Shift diff for one of the above systems is $4.75/hr. Weekend diff is another 4.75/hr on top of shift diff if applicable (meaning if you work 2nd or 3rd shift and the weekend you get 9.50/hr on top of base pay). You get weekend diff no matter what schedule you work.

Hope this helps. If health insurance benefits are very important to you be sure to ask lots of questions because one of the major systems in central Ohio just made a very big change in their health benefits--a change that many current employees are not happy with.

Hi Newohiorn,

Please elaborate more on these changes. I am thinking of doing something extreme, yes, leaving the hills, so I would like to know more. Thanks for your response.

Hyde Park Health Center...they are located in the same building as the nursing home but they are their own seperate unit and is RN only. Basically they share the same building and you work for them but you aren't with them...LOL

The health insurance at my institution is now some sort of health care account program rather than traditional HMOs or PPOs. When I was hired a little over a year ago they offered three different kinds of medical insurance and now they only have the account program and my co-workers have not been happy about it (I use my husband's insurance). I'm sure if you speak with human resources or interview with them they will be up front about it and can provide you more info. I just know my co-workers have been unhappy, particularly those with chronic medical problems.

I forgot to answer the other question about ADN vs BSN. I don't think there is any diff for BSN at my institution and I've heard that any diff in the central OH area for BSN is minimal.

Some of the major hospital groups to check out in central Ohio (if hospital is what you're interested in) are Mount Carmel Health System, OhioHealth and OSU Medical Center.
