HI Everyone
I'm just curious about the pay rate for LPN and RN in Alabama(Mobile area) for New Grad?
Do you know can LPN do IVs or that get a job in the L&D wing?
Thanks for any info.

VANurse, does the VA employ psychiatric technicians? If so, how would one go about getting one of the positions?
Thanks.

Here in Central AL, the going rate for a RN(new grad) is $12.50 plus 2.00/night and .50 ACLS. Not very good rate IMO. I heard FL pay isn't bad at all.

That pay for an RN is crazy!!!! Here in Ohio, most of the CNA's make that!!!
Starting pay for a new RN is usually anywhere from $19.00 to $24.00 depending on where it is.

The facility that I work in only sees outpatient psych patients. However, Tuscaloosa has a inpatient facility that would more than likely staff techs. I am not positive. I would recommend going to the web site and searching by that position. The address in http://www.vacareers.gov, you can search all positions by state. Good Luck!
Thank you very much. :) I will check out the link.

some drive to New Orleans for $32/hr
I live in Mobile, and I will more than likely commute to NO after graduation. I may eventually move there. (Or at least into MS so that my commute will be shorter.)

I live in Mobile, and I'm going to USA right now as a 1st semester nursing student, but I don't know how much they pay because I'm moving as soon as I graduate, and I haven't bothered to look into it... :)

You might want to try some of the SMALLER hospitals in Alabama. They tend to have a base $1-2 higher than the bigger ones. They have to in order to attract the new RN's from the glitz of the bigger hospitals. I work at a Community Health Systems hospital in Troy. They have about the best pay in the wiregrass area. After some experience, you have the benefit of negotiation. Hang in there.

yipee!!! UAB took over our hospital mgmt recently & RN's are getting a $2/hr across board raise. I know the LPN's are getting a raise too, but I forget how much since we employee no LPN's in my unit presently. This is great news for us! :balloons:

Did anyone see the article in the Birmingham News in April titled Paging Nurses? It showed the pay rates for new grads in all Birmingham hospitals with the exception of Healthsouth and Carraway. The highest paid were the nurses at the VA hospital. The lowest paid nurses were at Cooper Green. I think I still have it at home I can try to type it up if anyone is interested.

That sounds interesting, I for one would like to see that! I'm always scanning the paper for information about nursing jobs, pay rates, etc. just to see. It'll be a while before I need to worry about a job, but, I enjoy seeing what's out there and getting an idea for where to look in the future. Thanks!!

i didn't see the article but heard about it. $18.00 and change seems to be the starting rate for rns in this area. one of my fellow graduates has a job at healthsouth down town and says the start pay is $18.00 something.
if you don't mind, can you post the article, thanks.
