Pay Rate

HI Everyone

I'm just curious about the pay rate for LPN and RN in Alabama(Mobile area) for New Grad?

Do you know can LPN do IVs or that get a job in the L&D wing?

Thanks for any info.

$12 is sad. I was making more than that as a chiropractic assistant in Gadsden with just 2 years of general study. (2001) I worked PRN for the same chiropracter this summer for $12-20 per hour depending on how much my bonus was for collections (avg $16)

Once upon a time I left Alabama (Bham) to seek my fortune, because I heard other states pay so much better and yada yada yada.....

First I went to Texas. At the time I was making $15/hr in Ala, but that was with experience (oh, yes, this was 15 years ago). Much to my surprise, I found that the most pay in Texas I could find was $15.50/hr, but that was strictly for critical care nurses.

Then on to Tennessee. Tenessee paid $14.50...TOPS...for flexipool critical care.

Georgia was a little better... I got a really good psych nursing job at $16.50 for day shift.

The grass is always greener.......

I believe the grass is the same!

And people think RNs make so much money. I think the pay in AL has to be some of the lowest in the U.S.; I know the cost of living is less but that kind of paying is insulting. Especially when comparing it to other college educated professions.

I've been checking into this while deciding where I want to go to work when I graduate, and have heard that in the Mobile, AL area, the pay starts around $18/hr. Some people have told me that they make $25 without benefits, and some drive to New Orleans for $32/hr

As a new RN graduate this December we have had just about all of the nurse recruiters come to our school and the starting RN pay for all hospitals in the Birmingham area is around $18/hr give or take a little plus shift differentials between $3.50-$4.00 for night shift. Some of the hospital start off at $22 plus shift diff. if you choose no benefits. The Baptist Health System is one of the lowest but they are raising their rate in the next few months for new graduates.

Montgomery area for new RN grads either program is $15/hr with $2/hr even & $3/hr nite diffs. Extra diffs for Board certs & ACLS completion. Not the best but it is what it is.

I have heard that Huntsville Hospital pays very well. You may want to look into working there. Also, I have worked in surgery and found that I made about $10,000 more per year than the floor nurses because of all the overtime and pay for taking call. You might want to look into working in surgery.

In mobile you can start out anywhere from 18 -22 an hour with benefits. Abq, new mexico starts out at 18 an hour at all 5 hospitals.

I started at 18 right out of school. UAB starts @ 18.05; Baptist Birmingham 18-20. Lowest in North AL is Community Health Systems so I've heard.

I started out at the B'ham VA as a new grad at 18.65/hr with 10 percent night and 20 percent weekend diff. That was almost one and a half years ago. With 1 evaluation and government pay scale changes I now am salaried at about 20.50/hr with the same shift diff.

In 96 when I passed boards I made $8.68 as an LPN i had made $7.00 as a PCT. This was a BMC Montclair. In 98 I moved to lakeshore and got $9.90 an hour. In Sept 2000 I tnrasfered to Miami and made $12 an hour plus shift dift of $1 and $3 for weekend. In 02 I cane back to B'ham and I started at $14 an hour and now make $14.28 an hour plus $1 for shift dift. I do average about 8-20 hours of OT.
