Pay and hours during orientation??

Published

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site so please humor any mistakes! I'm recently an RN as I just took and passed boards last week, and I start my hospital internship on July 19th. My questions are, 1. Will new nurses immediately begin working a full-time schedule including didactic and floor time? And 2. Do you immediately start getting paid your base pay from the very first day? I'm just so eager to begin a full-time work/pay period. Is the first week of hospital orientation usually a full-time work week or do you gradually get that time? Just curious! This is my first big girl job so I'm new to the ways of a full-time schedule and paycheck. Thanks!

As a new nurse, I started with full-time hours at my base new-grad pay. Congrats on boards and landing a job -- it's a tough market out there!

Unless you were specifically told otherwise (and agreed to this), you'll be paid your standard pay rate as soon as you start working. Hospitals usually have a formal schedule for at least the first couple weeks or so of orientation (mostly classes), and it's usually full-time day shift, regardless of what shift you were hired to work -- but HR or your manager should inform you in advance of your orientation schedule.

Congrats!

Congrats on getting a job. Yes, you are normally paid the base pay. I have never hear of a person who has gotten more or less. Good luck...I am still hunting for a job..It has been six months now.

I just graduated in May and passed my board ... but I was offered a job and begin orientation on August 2nd. My orientation is full time with my base pay... and I received the schedule for it before I even passed my boards.
