After going through a pregnancy myself, I just can't imagine how someone would not know. I can see if the person has irregular periods. It it may be tough to pinpoint exactly when they got pregnant. I can even see how some women don't realize they are pregnant for 3-5 months. But to go through an entire pregnancy and NOT know- I just don't get it!

Don't they feel the baby move? My son kept me up many a night kicking me. In addition, my belly was huge! Even if the girl has a small belly, she still must know that she had sex & hasn't gottten a period, right?

(sigh) Maybe it is ignorance on their part? Or could it be plain denial? I just don't get it. Please enlighten me.

Not totally relevant to what you asked, but my sister got pregnant at age 17. She was throwing up every morning and starting to show. My parents seemed genuinely shocked when she finally spilled the beans at about 5 months... and seemed even more shocked that my sister's condition didn't come as news to me! Talk about denial......

My great grandmother's sisters all had breast and ovarian cancer and after her own brush with cancer, they told her she could never had kids. At the time, she had a young daughter. Ten years later, she was so scared to go to the doctor because she had a huge 'tumor' in her abdomen. Even the doctor thought that's what it was! She thought she was dying but sure enough she ended up giving birth to my grandfather... :)

Anyways, I have a question... In situations like this, what's the usual procedure re: psych/counseling? I would think that if the person really didn't know they were pregnant, then they wouldn't have had time to emotionally prepare like other moms... or if the person was in denial or hiding it, they'd need counseling for those reasons as well.:uhoh21:

I've heard of pregancies happening not only with vasectomies, but also, a close friend of mine had a tubal ligation years ago. Her only child wanted a baby brother so bady, so the parents told him to pray. Apparently he prayed hard, because less than a year later his little brother was delivered :o

Hey - prayer works! My mother came to me at eleven years old and told me she was going to have a baby. Was she shocked when I told her that God had finally decided to give me a "yes" - I had been praying daily for a little brother or sister for two years! Supposedly she shouldn't have been able to have me and after so many years without getting pregnant - she figured I was a one in a million miracle. Um - nope.

At the same time I have pulled little fetus's (12cm in length) out of the ER toilet also.

Have you really? Oh my god. I think we may be a bit sheltered in my small state.

Just curious....did you get your sperm count checked afterwards?? And..did you sue your urologist?? My husband had a vasectomy almost 5 years ago...he has a daughter from a previous marriage and we have a son together...I can't even imagine having another child :uhoh3: My husband would probably file for divorce if I ended up pregnant (he definitely wouldn't believe "it grew back together") :chuckle

My wife and I had a child 8 years after I got my vasectomy

apparently it grew back together

shocked the hell out of my wife

I am wondering the same! My hubby would believe it grew back together but myself I am done having babes. My last pg was very hard on me. PTL and PIH. 3rd baby, 1st time with PIH -- weird and yes same dads. Personally, I think it had something to do with having been on Tricor. I happened to run out while out of town at christmas and couldn't get a refill. By the time I got back I suspected I was pg. God works in funny ways sometimes.

[:rotfl: LOL... i wonder if we know the same patients?? :coollook:

I have only seen 2 of these in 10 years that I believed.

The first was mid 30's and had been actively seeing our local Med School family practice clinic and had been put on carafate, reglanzantac.......

she developed severe abd pain and her hubby was rushing her to the hospital. They stopped at the fire station for help and she delivered in the backseat of her car in about 12 degree weather.

The second was non-compliant paranoid schizophrenic who not only did not believe she was pregnant, she thought they were going to take her to surgery and put a baby inside of her. She freaked as they tried to prep her.

All of the rest that I have seen multiple teens who swore they did not know. In the end they usually fess up.

Had a 40ish lady come in, saying she was having back pains, felt like it did when delivered her first child; but that her last period was only 3 months ago, and her first prenatal visit was scheduled for next week. But, .... she did bleed throughout her first pregnancy. Brought her back to the ED, MD found she was mostly dilated and full term, so I took her up to L&D.

Triage L&D nurse was furious, kept saying she couldn't be full term if her last period was 3 months ago (HOW long have you been in L&D? sheesh!), yanked the blanket off the poor woman still in the wheelchair, put one hand on her belly and pronounced there! I knew she wasn't full term. 8 lb 4 ozer three hours later.
