Hi everyone nice forum, hope to stick around for a while .didnt know things like this existed?

Anyway i need some help with a problem i've got.

Been a nurse for over 2 years.fancied a change ,did the interview thing and got the job.

Had to get a health questionaire done which i was privvy to seeing before it was sent to occi health.

My gp has written that i had a short episode of depression over ten years ago.not recurred

also that i had a bad back 2 yrs ago .

i am now really concerned about this effecting the chances of the new job?

1:will the past deppression effect my chances? at the time i thought it was just one of those things (lookin back now i probably was)

2: could i be struck off for this?

3:should i question the gp's interpretation of my notes?(different gp now)

4: am i stressing myself into an early grave for nothing ?

please if anyone could sharethere opinions or knowledge i would be grateful

thx in advance :)

I would expect them to be considering the type person you are NOW, not years ago. And how many people are treated for depression anyway? (lots) I would not worry about it. If it comes up in the conversation say that it was due to a stressful family situation but is resolved now. They don't need details. As for the back---if you have not been treated recently and do not plan to be lifting heavy loads, then that information is not valid either. Just go and make a good first impression. Good luck!

if you look employment and the law they are not allowed to use it but i will get you a web address on thurs when i'm in work, there have been court cases where employers have lost when they have referred to previous illnesses

You don't need to worry. These are standard questions to identify reasons why an employee may not be covered by a company insurance scheme. If it is documented that you have a previously injured back then you would not be employed in a heavy lifting environment. If you had a previous depression it is unlikely to bear any influence on the job (esp 10 years ago with no recurrence).
