PASSING NCLEX the FIRST TIME!!! with HURST and ATI

Published

I wanted to share my experience and encourage someone; just ALLNURSES (AN) bloggers had encouraged me. YOU can pass the first time!!!! You have to encourage yourself and PRAY!! The NCLEX is set-up for you to pass. I felt coming out of nursing school, I was missing information and felt the need to over study. I you understand core content, YOU WILL PASS. If you struggle with this, I would recommend HURST review. I did HURST review and absolutely loved it. I was able to put things together. ALSO, I used Virtual-ATI. I heard mix reviews, but it helped me. ATI has the best of both worlds core content and assessments. I used their LIVE review Videos as well. I also did all of the HURST Q-review tests. The AN study guide is a good review.

Did you find that the Hurst review was enough content for the test?

Asking for input on Excell Nursing review vs. Kaplan review.. Anyone that can comment, please do. Thanks

Yes and No; Hurst assumes that you understand basic fundamental nursing content. I used ATI to review material not covered in Hurst.

Some of my classmates who did the live Kaplan review were not pleased, although they passed they felt it did not help them prepare for boards. Kaplan only teaches testing strategies and they do not do a good job with reviewing core content. I would recommend Hurst and any source for questions, such NCLEX 4000 or learning ext.

We did Kaplan, I had scores ranging 58 - 68 and failed mine (I had a 3.5 GPA in school). I never clicked with Kaplan and I think I relied on it too much: it wasn't worth it's weight in hype. Just my opinion...

Just wondering with the Hurst, and ATI, how did you know you were ready? How do I get ready for the select all that apply and prioritization?

What are the Hurst and ATI? What are the websites that I can find them at? I am in my last semester of nursing school and we were told to do about 100 questions a day. SO I thought I would start practising now.

Hurst Review - great content review

Atitesting - questions that narrow down your weak areas, so it speeds up your study time

Thank you for the info. How does Kaplan compare? Due to financial restraints which one would I be better off with?

Not a clear cut answer since each has it's strength.

Hurst-content. Allows one to understand basic thought process of new nurse

Ati. Allows one to figure out what areas one is weak in. So speeds up study process.

Kaplan. Teaches test taking skills. For me content was boring. Excellent questions as far nclex appropriate.

NCSBN. Good test bank and questions are said to be similar to NCLEX. For me, did not like the content presentation.

Feuer. Excellent content. Can download for free or get old version for a discounted price. About 33 cds. Get the pharm and the live lectures(med/surg, women's health, newbord, ped, psych). This is great for content. I highly recommend Feuer.

Kaplan. Download free tests. Can get free decision tree lecture by Kaplan to see if it works for you. This will tell you if you are ready for the exam or not.

Hurst Review has a book. I have not tried the book, but Hurst Review get's excellent results.

NCSBN- very inexpensive. Test bank is proven to be good. It costs 50 for three months.

Saunders - book. For me it was too lengthy, but the questions are good practice, but not great above the line questions.

In summary, if I was short of cash, I would go with Feuer for content, and NCSBN for test questions. Also would download free Kaplan tests, and attend decision making free seminar by Kaplan.

For me personally, I like Hurst for understanding basic principles. Feuer for me preceded by Hurst, just did it for me. My scores went up drastically. Since I love working on the computer, the ATI which my school gave me for school, was a great touch since it narrowed down my weak areas, which I reviewed on Feuer. Kaplan I use just to make sure I am above the line on.

But, this is the nclex, so if I could, I would spend the money for the tool that is most appropriate for my particular learning needs. As it could costs you in the end. Headache, Retake costs, Lack of basic knowledge, frustration.
