Just recently I passed the board exam and I'm happy to announce that finally I am BSN/RN!!!!It's been two years since I graduated from nursing school. I took it 8 times but I'm not ashamed of it. So for those who haven't passed yet, I am a living proof that there's a chance and while you're still alive there's hope, okay! Btw, I didn't answer much questions this time maybe like 300-400 questions in all. Instead I concentrated on content review. I bought ABC of Passing the Nclex exam by Gapuz. For those who are preparing for the boards...GOODLUCK! If I passed...the more you will!!!
Right now I started applying around the area where I live. I am not in a hurry though bec my license is not with me yet. Since it's been two years I contacted all my friends and former classmates so they can help me find a job. I guess networking is the best! I'll let you guys know when I land on one. Thanks!:thankya:
Perseverance is a virtue. I am glad you passed NCLEX. What worries, is whether you will get a job after two years out of school an no experience. I struggle for ten months to find a job. No one wants me to hire because I have no experience, and they don't want to accept me for new grad position, because I have graduated more than six months ago. Your attitude, however is a great encouragement. You showed that it is possible to get what you desire if you are determined. Congratulations.
Where are you job hunting? What state if you don't mind me asking? I'm from North Jersey and if I can't find a job in NJ then I'll probably apply for a reciprocity and apply in NY.

I tried in several states, including Alaska. I often followed news where a hospital spokesperson complained about nursing shortage. However when I called that institution, there was a standard "no new grads, at least one year of experience". I am living in New York and tried to find the job also upstate, and in correctional facilities (as a male nurse). If you are less than half year from graduation you may have a chance to find a fellowship . A lot of hospitals have been closed in NY recently, so there are plenty of experienced nurses on a job hunt. I wonder how other recent grads land their first job today.

I passed the NCLEX twice. Once in 1980 and again in May of 2009 and both times with flying colors. I scored incredibly high scores my first go round and this time the computer shut down at 75 questions meaning that if I passed at that point, it's because I know what I'm doing. The test is a test on critical thinking not on your knowledge of nursing facts. Right? I was a nurse for 10 years working NICU and have proven to myself that I am still a good nurse. I have so many character references until it boggles the mind.
So. . . . I have sent in over 100 applications to hospitals in my area and because of the way the hiring is done through computers, I simply get a computer generated letter saying, "There are other candidates more qualified." I know for a fact that isn't true. But on paper, I guess I look like hundreds of others that aren't qualified. I personally believe that I should be tested to see if that statement is actually true and have wondered how I could fight it. I don't think that I should be rejected on that basis. The fact that I passed the NCLEX so well seemed to be irrelevant to the matter, btw.
I finally got a job in home health though. That is where the action is these days. I am over qualified for what I do and get paid a pittance to do it. But I have to tell you that I love :heartbeat my job.
I have been curious if this is a Florida phenomenon or is this across the country? I knew of one girl that graduated in my area and also did not get a job. She moved to Colorado and apparently got a job right away. So that made me wonder and is why I asked. I really would like to know when you get a job. Look at home health. You might get a job more quickly than if you try a hospital.
I've not only passed NCLEX with minimum 75 questions, but also did several certificates, for the future job. I was a top student. It all does not matter, because it is easier to hire conditioned and humble experienced nurse, than put you on a test to prove you are dedicated and independently thinking professional.
Human resources are very inhuman today. The corporations are soulless entities created to produce profit, and people are peace of garbage easy to throw out or replace. As much as I love nursing, I am disgusted by lack of humanity in the work force of big health care corporations.
THANKS for this, It has been 2 years since I finished school also. I have failed 5 times, Mother got sick, I got sick, now my husband had a stroke. I had just given up, everytime I schedule my test something bad happens and my study habits went out the window. I am getting ready to study again and I am also going to study content more than questions. Anyone with ideals to help please let me know.
Great going new RN:nurse:

Hi, I spent most of my first NCLEX attempt studying content and it didn't help. I have figured out it is more about playing with the questions and trying to understand how the answers are hidden. You need to understand how the questions have been set. it is not just about answering the questions but learning to figure out the hidden answers. Going for second attempt.
