Passed ANCC FNP Exam

Published

So glad I really made an effort to be well prepared for this exam because I thought it was difficult despite going in feeling very ready.

Had a lot of 'select 3 of the 7 options' type of questions, rank treatments in order of priority 1,2,3, & multiple image/ derm questions. The legal/ ethics questions were pretty straightforward and they pulled some interesting research vocab words out of nowhere that made me glad I reviewed Fitzgerald's section on research terminology. The clinical questions were complex with multiple comorbid issues and no normal values for labs were provided (as the Fitzgerald review does warn).

In addition to the Fitz review online, I attended a Hollier lecture, read the Leik book and did all the practice Q's, and took the free sample ANCC tests. I did not purchase any tests/ test banks and I am glad I didn't as I already felt comfortable with computer format testing from my program and felt like I got more out of my review by pulling out my assessment book and essentially re-reading it in addition to the above review materials.

I used 3 of the 4 hours, answered all of the questions in 2 hours and spent the third hour looking over them all. Did not see a pass/ fail on the screen, but they did print out a letter for me at check out that said 'congrats you passed' essentially.

So glad it is over. Just wanted to share my experience for anyone thinking about sitting for the test. I think I am the only one from my cohort who chose the ANCC test, everyone else went AANP.

Congratulations!

How did u study ?

Thanks! I used resources from Fitz/ Hollier/ Leik, and honestly started my studying in small pieces about a year ago, doing board prep along side of the work required for my program.
