how to pass NCLEX-RN 2015

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi there guys, I need some tips/help because I'm planning to take NCLEX Rn early this year. I graduated last 2008 in the Philippines and I want to make it on my first try and i dont know what to do first:(

test taking strategies can help you A LOT. always remember nclex is a PERFECT again i will EMPHASIZE PERFECT HOSPITAL, it means you will have ALL the equipment provided. always remember that ORDER HAS ALREADY BEEN PROVIDED by MD- you just have to choose which is the best and what will fit in the question. before doing anything always ASSESS your patient if assessment has not yet been donE remember your nursing process, LAB VALUES MEMORIZE/FAMILIARIZE it b/c it will save your life. read the question WORD PER WORD DO NOT SCAN. with select all that apply MIN ANSWER IS 2 it cannot be 1. answer your question RELATED to the problem. example if "yada yada scenario given----- a pt has c/o CHEST PAIN" - what do you give first? in your mind you will be thinking about giving O2 right b/c he might be lacking of O2 that is why pt c/o cx pain but giving O2 WILL NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM, IT WILL NOT RESOLVE THE COMPLAIN/ PAIN soo-----give morphine FIRST b/c the pt complained of pain, dont overthink or overanalyze, the patient is complaining is PAIN, not "hard time bx/sob,that is the reason why you give morphine and that is how your answer MUST BE RELATED TO THE PROBLEM. there are a lot of strategies our DON has taught us but i cannot indulge in more. so it will be a very good idea to know strategies b/c it will save you when you do not know how to answer the question especially when they will give you high sounding words that could be "tricky". dont spend TOO MUCH money on books, stick to one book- saunders, and do A LOT OF Q&A.... none of the practice question will come out but it will be similar/sounds familiar to you but not word per word. do Q&A and then if you feel you dont know the topic do a review on it. reading will be useless if you will not practice on how to answer what you read/check your knowledge on what your read about.

@aiampinay85 when do you plan to take your exam? can you share your study routine? thanks. email me at [email protected]

Hi, I am also from the Philippines and graduated on 2008. Sadly, I failed the exam twice and planning to take it again as soon as the 45-day hold has been lifted (here in IL if you failed the exam, you have to wait for 45 days before you can schedule for another one) Saunders is a good start to know your content (I've used it religiously and have ready it from cover to cover!) I've also used NCSBN ($50 for 3 weeks) to review content but I was overwhelmed by all the info they provide. Still, NCSBN helped me with some additional info that's not in Saunders. Also used Kaplan book for strategy in taking the exam and watched videos from Hurst review. Don't forget to purchase or borrow from your library (if they have it) Lacharity's PDA. BIG HELP. You may be asking, "so why the heck did you still fail the exam?" (Don't worry, I also asked that to myself. Lol) My answer to that is really simple, I SUCK AT CRITICAL THINKING. And in NCLEX, you need to have great critical thinking skills. So right now I am planning to take either Kaplan's live classes OR Excell Review in Chicago. Hope this time I pass. (3rd time's a charm, I hope!) Good luck to you kabayan! Let me know if I can be of help to you! :)
