pasadena city college rn program fall 2013

has anyone applied to pasadena's rn program for fall 2013? has anyone been accepted into east pasadena's rn program? if so what was your pre-reqs grades? mines aren't all that great that's why i am so worried i will not get in because my pre-reqs gpa is only 2.79...do i even have a chance at getting in? please advise...so stressed out :( im not a bad student... i just don't have the time to study like im supposed to...i am a working full time single mother with two children and couldn't dedicate my time to so much studying...i was lucky if i even got 10 hours of studying a week

I called them earlier today. He said that emails/notifies will be going out soon. If you don't hear back in the next 10 days. Then call them. So much mixed information. Just wanting an email/letter or something. Still waiting to hear from Cypress, too.

Have you made a decision to accept your spot for Pierce yet? Or still waiting? I spoke to one of the faculty there today and she said over 300 applicants applied and 44 were selected...she said its a traditional program and its rigorous, but they have a strong reputation with hospitals in the area and good pass rates for the NCLEX. I came across some postings that were somewhat negative about the faculty on allnurses and I asked about that and the response was that negative comments are going to be in any program and some faculty are more supportive of students than others. Basically I was told that its competitive and challenging and out of 44 students usually 30 stay in the program. Pierce does have NLNAC accreditation which I know is voluntary and not always required for jobs and advanced degree programs, but it does say something positive for their program I think. Its crazy all this hoping to get into any school and then I feel like maybe I'm nitpicking about comments that faculty aren't very friendly and people saying they know people that leave the program because its too much...its not supposed to be easy. Any thoughts?

Hey, yeah I did. I just submitted my acceptance letter to them. Since I'm an alternate at Pcc, it's not a guarantee that I'm going to get in so I'm goin to take pierce. I don't want to wait for Pcc and then end up not getting anything if Pcc ends up not taking me lol. I do know people who dropped out from pierce but I also know people who graduated from there. And i alsp know people who dropped out from pcc also. Honestly, nursig program is going to be challenging anywhere, not just at pierce. I really think it depends on the person. What are you going to do?

Agreed! Nursing is not easy no matter where you go. There may be teachers that are more helpful than others but what school doesn't have good AND bad teachers? It's all on how much you want it in my opinion. Some schools may be harder than others but as long as they prepare you well for the NCLEX that's all that matters, right? Good for you on making the decision! And I also agree on the NLNAC accreditation. Not needed but it is a plus.

I say go with Pierce since you are already in! And I agree with the NLNAC accreditation. Not needed but still a plus! My friend who went to Cerritos said that they started with 60 and ended with 24. But that's not gonna deter me from wanting to go there! :) if the NCLEX pass rates are good, that's all that matters!

Hi everyone!

I just joined allnurses! I've been stalking this PCC RN 2013 forum since the beginning though...creep much? haha.

Anyways, I also applied to this program and I figured I did not get in. They have not sent rejection emails, but I did call them today asking what was the status. I did read a comment earlier about them letting us know within the next 10 days, so I asked the lady about that. I was curious to get an idea because I have NOT taken the TEAS and marked on the application to take it next Wednesday the 8th. I told her I just wanted to know to "leave the 8th open and clear my schedule." Is that little white lie mean? (Of course I've scheduled this day free, since I applied lol! I just wanted to get an answer out of her). Some of you may get different responses, but here's what the lady at PCC told me today April 30:

"Well we already sent out all the acceptance emails. Rejection emails won't be sent out until June. We're still working on alternates, but basically if you haven't received an email by now, then that most likely means you WEREN'T accepted, sorry." I figured this was the case, so I kind of mentally prepared myself beforehand...

For those that haven't taken the TEAS, yes you must be 'accepted' to receive the official invite to take it. So if they invite you to, it's a good sign. You might be considered an alternate, but you might get in since they invited you to take it!

This was my first time applying to PCC. The only other program I applied to was ELAC, which I won't hear from until 2 months from now *anxious*. I'm going to keep applying to programs until I get in somewhere! It's frustrating, but I genuinely want to be an RN and won't stop until I get there. Someone has to give me a chance, that's all I ask for!

I'm rooting for all of you, since I know how it feels to get rejected! For those of you who got in, congratulations! :) I'm happy and excited for you! Sorry for this extensive reply! lol I hope it helps some of you!

Thanks for letting us know Pandalove!! That's what I figured too. I just hate that they lie and beat around the bush. It's like, just tell us already!! Lol. Hope you get into ELAC! Hopefully there won't be a next time but I suggest applying to as many schools as you can! I applied to 5 and I'm still not sure if I'll get into 1!!

No problem! Well I'm not sure if it's beating around the bush, but more of an uncertainty. Maybe they need to organize their selection process a little bit better? Not sure, but good luck to you to where ever you apply to! ;)

Two more months until we hear back from ELAC?! :( I hear back from Santa Ana College this week! So nervous that I can't even sleep!

Didn't you get into PCC? At least you got in somewhere! Haha. I am currently taking Speech at Santa Ana. The school isn't the greatest looking but I really liked every single teacher I had there! Sucks because I missed the application period by a week! Can't believe it was only 8 days =/ Good luck!! :)

I wonder if people who got into PCC are tired of us talking about other schools on this thread. Lol.

YES 2 entire months! They take so long! Well PCC was 8 weeks processing, which is about the same. I turned in my ELAC app late March and the dept. told me to wait 2-3 months. I called today and she said 2 months from now! :( Good luck with Santa Ana!
