Pasadena City College ADN Fall 2023

Published

Hey Everyone! Just thought I'd make a thread for PCC's Fall 2023 ADN applicants. This is my first time applying and applications open up the week of April 1 - April 15. I have also applied to other schools like College of the Canyons, Pierce College, Glendale College, Antelope Valley College, Butte College. I wish everyone the best of luck!

A current student told me a few days ago, that their program is so unorganized, and the professors are not helpful, and you're pretty much on your own.

I mean they messed up on opening application dates, I had to call to let them know their website wasn't working and they had no clue.
This worries me because I always thought of PCC as a reputable nursing program, has anyone heard any positive or negative things? Im starting to worry now ?

Recent two years for fall semester app, they had told students until end of May. And this time its going way too slow. When I attend online workshop(?) I did remember some students complaining that they applied last cycle, but hadn't got any emails. As I know they should send out emails even it's denial. In allnurses previous thread, I also saw one student couldn't hear back anything even she had high scores, so I think they do have flaws on the app systems.

I thought of PCC as having a reputable program as well, but after researching NCLEX passing rates, theirs isn't as good as I had hoped. I have already been accepted at Glendale Community College, and they have a better NCLEX passing rate than PCC. I'm still curious if I'll get accepted at PCC or not though ?

Hope I would also have a options to choose. I wanted to go ELAC. But I screwed up my TEAS on first attempt so I took second one 2weeks later. I got around 87 but I found out most of school accepts first attempt. Some they does, but second exam should be taken after 365 days from the first exam date. Since PCC is the only school accepting multiple attempt for TEAS.., no option for me?

Im going to be applying to GCC and cal states too.  I missed all the deadlines since I just took my TEAS end of March and all fall applications periods were already closed. How do you check NCLEX passing rates?

Thank you!  PCC went from 96% in 2019 to 89% currently, not terrible ...maybe the pandemic had some major factors.

Damn. Thanks for sharing with us. I haven't really heard much except "It's very challenging." I did look at their student handbook and they seem very strict about things, going so far as to specify that students will be given one minute per exam question. Any grade below 75% is failing the class. They do give you a chance to retake a class. At ELAC, anything below 76% is failing. For ELAC, if you fail a class the first semester, you're out of the program. If you fail a class after the first semester, you can retake it.

I also thought of PCC as very reputable, and that was one of the main reasons I was interested in it over ELAC but ELAC has already had 1 of their 3 orientations. They let us order the uniforms, gave us the textbook list, gave us resources, had current students talk to us, and have sent all the information they said they would so I should probably really take all this into account. I live right near ELAC so PCC would be further from me.

I heard great things about Glendale and LA County school of nursing.

Consider applying to LA County school of nursing for a Spring start. Their grading scale offers more wiggle room (anything below 70% is a fail vs. Pasadena <75% =F and ELAC <76%=F). They have good passing rates, their student handbook seems to show they have policies and procedures in place to retain studnets, and I've heard (to be fair, kind of indirectly) only positive things about it. I think they do their clinicals at the Keck USC hospital. https://dhs.lacounty.gov/college-of-nursing-and-allied-health/ Their application is open right now. The only interesting thing is you need a PE class to get in- not sure if it's needed to apply (but there are online ones you can take).

Also indirectly, I heard GCC's nursing school is awesome.

Have you considered messaging the director? She's very nice. All of the alternates got in for fall and some may choose other schools so there may be room. I think it's definitely worth a shot if PCC doesn't work out or if it's your top choice. They seem like they know they are competing against other schools and that their pass rates may be a concern (They told us the December 2022 group had a 94.4% first time passing rate.).

Im so sad because I just wanted to get in any of program, and I was planning to move near ELAC.., so I was putting that school on the first option. If I knew ELAC will release their result way earlier and starting orientation I would have at least tried?? I didn't even applied during app cycle so I don't think it's negotiable. Since pcc allows student to apply their ADN and lvn both from this year, I did got an offer from their LVN program last week Thursday, I'm still thinking to try for ELAC on 2024 Spring semester.. According to previous cycle, after pcc release LVN acception they will also send out ADN letters really soon. So I'm expecting results will be on next week.

honestly I give up with pcc LOL I already got into mt sacs program and im happy enough with that... if I get into pcc ill be giving up my spot

Congratulations on getting accepted to Mt. SAC. I withdrew my application from LACC since I have not heard back from them yet. I got into another program, ELAC, super close to my home. Do you mind if we keep in touch here to message each other about how each program is different and the same.
