Hello. I wanted to make this space for those of us who will be new grads and have applied or will apply for the Parkland residency July 2023 cohort. I have applied and received an interview date (super excited!). Hopefully we can all connect and support each other here!
As far as timeline.. I applied in January for OR, NICU, and L&D. I was contacted towards the end of January for an OR interview for early February. Then got contacted for a NICU interview late February. I hadn't heard back from either and it said pending review. I just got an interview invite for L&D on 3/15, had my interview the morning of 3/22 and they offered me later that evening if that helps. Some departments seem to take longer than others.
studentmnurse2021 said:@seldem There could a variety of reasons why someone may not receive an interview. Having an ADN vs. BSN vs. MSN could play a role in it. In theory, BSN or MSN-prepared nurses have more training and a larger scope of practice versus their ADN counterparts. Hospitals also tend to lean towards hiring more MSN/BSN nurses to maintain their Magnet status. In large cities like Dallas, the competition can be more fierce, enabling large hospitals systems to be more selective on who they choose to hire.
This is just my take on it. I'm sorry that your friend wasn't able to get an interview. Some of the best nurses I've met during my clinical rotations in the ICU were ADN-prepared nurses. If your friend works at Parkland, maybe he could secure another RN role there, and work his/her way into the ICU?
How hard is it to transfer units? the only thinks that sucks about Parkland is the contracts for nurse residency.
Just wanted to share that I interviewed with L&D on 3/23 and received an offer the next day. The recruiter wouldn't give me a straight answer on the contract amount at first then said if broken within the first year it would probably be $20k. I'm not sure how many spots they're offering but they said they are looking for people to be there long term (which is probably one of the reasons why the contract amount is so much ?). They also said the ratio is usually 1:2. They seemed really nice but that contract amount scares me.

There is no difference in scope of practice between ADN vs BSN nurses. They are both permitted to do the same exact things. However as you said, it does help to accrue more BSN nurses to maintain magnet status.
