I recently was offered a job at Parkland Hospital in Dallas in the NICU and was wondering if anyone had any information about the hospital, how they treat the staff, where to live around Dallas, etc. I am from Arlington so I know the area but don't know anyone who has worked there to get advice from.
Any information would be appreciated!

I got offered a job in Parkland's NICU too, and just recently accepted it! The user finally40 (i think thats right) works there, and told me a lot about the program. She really helped to convince me to accept it. Where all are you considering? If you put in the topic Parkland hospital, or parkland NICU some of the stuff she wrote about it should show up! I hope you decide to come too!
the user is actually finallyat40 . try to pm her
I'm waiting to hear back from Harris in Fort Worth. There was a totally different vibe from them and Parkland, and I really think I liked Parkland better. The only drawbacks are that it's in Dallas which means the traffic is horrible and trying to find a decent place to live that isn't too far away.
Thanks for username!
OMG, trying to find somewhere to live has been the biggest headache! I live in fort worth now, so it sucks to have to move, however the pay at parkland is a lot better than fort worth. I found some apartments called The Madison at Cedar Springs and they are only 5 min from parkland, and allow you to bypass traffic. the price is really comparable to fort worth apartments too, and they are in a nice part of town. There are also some really nice townhomes that are right off the tollway (exactly 15min from parkland) and are priced really well for dallas, (about what a townhome would cost you in ft. worth) called the reserve luxury townhomes on montfort. It really all depends on what you want, how much you want to spend, and how little you want to drive. Ive looked a lot on craigslist, you might want to try that

Living in D/FW :
I would try to find a house in the Frisco / North Plano / Flower Mound area.
Houses (your investment) should appreciate in those area.
Stay out of run down areas like Irving, Grand Praire, Garland.
A good rule of thumb in Dallas, If it has DART (Public Bus/Rail Lines) that serve the area, don't move there...

I have heard good things about their NICU jobs. However, I hear the turnover rate for nurses at Parkland in general is really bad.

One of my family members is being treated at Parkland. Another family member (also a nurse) was there with her and found that the other patient in the room (it was a semi-private room) had her IV lines hanging down onto the floor. When she asked the charge nurse to prevent the IV lines from dragging on the floor (for infection control obviously), the charge nurse informed her that it was OK for the lines to drag on the floor and refused to adjust them.
Is this the type of nursing that I should expect at Parkland? Does Parkland have any sort of nursing practice guidelines that conflict with this?

If you search "Parkland" here on allnurses, you will find LOTS of information about them... They are in a bit of hot water at the moment, however I don't know anything about the situation personally.
