Hello,
Just wanted to let ya'll know Parkland has posted the ER residency for July 2014 if anyone is interested. :)
LOL, that was a LONG time ago and I was fresh out of school with ZERO experience and they took me on the floor. I was very lucky for my time there and I think it helped when I moved to SICU. And if you are fortunate to start there, you can still do the ICU residencies including Neonatal, ER, etc at a later date and this time, you will have the inside track.
I got the email after ER postings closed about moving to the next level and approximately one week later got the email interview. In less than 12 hours after I emailed my two times, I got confirmation of time/date but this probably depends on the unit, the managers. All these residencies start in July after the new grads pass boards so there is still time.
I have participated in doing panel interviews in my current profession (not nursing) and i can tell you that I kinda knew within the first 5 minutes if the person is right for the job or not. Very simple. A good, professional resume/references that is to the point and well written. Are they well dressed? Are they well spoken? Do they know why they are here? What do they know (in this case) about emergency nursing, about Parkland, about stress. If you can't answer the simple open ended questions, you are fighting an uphill battle. If you don't know what kind of patients you will be seeing at Parkland, you don't need to be there. What research have you done to prepare for this interview? Where do you see yourself in five years? What should I remember about you (why should I hire you??) Practice with someone prior to the interview. And most of all, be YOURSELF. You have gotten to the interview because of your resume. Something caught their eye. Bring it home. Show confidence, show passion and be humble. You will do great-believe it!

Preemie RN, I did not have any experience when i started on 6West and 6 months later I was in the SICU residency. All they can do is tell you no, but how are you going to know unless you try. Give it your all, dress for success, be confident and good things do and can happen.
