Hello,
Just wanted to let ya'll know Parkland has posted the ER residency for July 2014 if anyone is interested. :)
Good post I want it bad. That let's everyone know that interviews are so different between departments. Burn ICU closed a couple of weeks ago. I was giving the example of how the ER residency is proceeding with my app. They kept the posting opened for 21 days and is one of only two I have applied for (OR being the other). I know the ER is a 3 year contract but not aware of the other units time frames.
If I'm not mistaking, all contracts are 3 years $20,000. (Meaning each year of your contract coat $20,000 so if you only fulfill 1 year and leave you owe the 2 years=$40,000. But a nurse told me his class complained about the 3 year contracts and only had to do 1 year contract $5000. Hope that made sense
I have been at parkland before and I definitely know what I am getting into so I will be happy to do 3 years and more. You either love the place or not. I think it is one of a kind and will be happy to go back. And they take all, just show your enthusiasm for "the lands" and have the time of your life.
I couldn't agree more. You are Parkland or you are not. It is not for everyone but if it is, you will always cherish the time you were there, no matter how hard it is. I started on 6 West in 1980 making less than $7 an hour and did my senior ICU residency at Parkland in 1979 in the Respiratory ICU (yes, they had one there back then).
