Papers

So I am terrible at writing papers. Does anyone know of a way to get your paper proofread before turning it in for a grade?

Take it to the English/literature department at either your university or the nearest one(in case you are studying online) and ask the department head to proofread it. Hope this helps!

Does your school have an English/Writing center? A lot of schools offer drop in help with writing papers and research. If that's not an option, find out who in your class is good at papers and have them proof read. Or, consider asking a professor you know and trust. That's exactly what I would do.

As I know several English professors I can tell you that if you do not have a good relationship with them they will direct you to other resources. I suggest seeing if your school has an English tutor and having them look over your paper and make suggestions, or you can offer to pay an English major to proof and edit.

Check to see if your school is a member of smartthink.com (sp?). It's a site that proofs papers.

Thank you I will look. My school does not offer much help when it comes to papers. I have gone to the writing center that they have, and they will not look at content, and will only answer specific questions. Which is not helpful, because I have used them multiple times to read through my papers, and turned them in to have errors in my paper after being told by the director of the center that my paper looked good. When I went back to them about this, i was told it is my responsibility to know how to do it correctly, they can only guide me some.

They are correct, and this is perfectly appropriate. Proofreading doesn't mean correcting errors of fact or conclusion, it means making sure the spelling and punctuation and grammar are all OK. It's not their job to help you by rewriting your paper, but to help your writing look good.

If you want help on content, you should make an appointment with your faculty well before the paper is due to discuss your ideas and conclusions and how to improve them.

Sure that is fine, but they are not even looking at the puncuation, grammar, apa etc. I have gone in with questions on all of this, was told it was fine, and that is where I lost my points. I am not losing points for content. Sorry that I was not clear.

In that case, you want an English comp major (if you are sure that's where you lost points). Advertise, offer a pan of cookies or a box of doughnuts or plant-sitting over vacation or something in exchange.

As a Mom I always proof read my kids papers. Try maybe a classmate or a senior classmate to take a peek. Here is a thread that goes over this.....https://allnurses.com/nursing-student-assistance/how-format-unique-604273.html

Purdue OWL: APA Formatting and Style Guide is another helpful source.
