Paper License....

So...I think I did something stupid. I just became licensed as an RN in my state, and have no clue where my paper license is now. I think it's possible I might have thrown it out (or possible that DH might have thrown it out) when cleaning like mad in preparation for company that is staying with us for two weeks. At the very least, it's lost in the house somewhere.

My state does online verify, and you can find my license number and info on the state's website by searching my name.

How big of an issue is it that I don't have the hard copy?

I live in a compact state. We have not had paper licenses in about 5 or 6 years. Last year I did a travel assignment in a compact state, the agency told me they do verify online but require a paper license. I told them that was impossible, as my state doesn't issue paper licenses. Took a few days to get straight, and held up my start date. Good luck.

It depends on your state and employer. Every employer I have had has asked to see a paper copy and kept a copy on file. But, if you are currently employed you won't need one unless you change jobs. You'll get a new one at the time of your next renewal. At any rate, I imagine you can order a new one if you want to keep a copy.

I'm in Florida which verifies online & sends out two paper copies. One is large & the other a pocket/wallet version. I have been asked by two hospitals and three home health agencies to bring the paper nursing license to the interviews. The facility I work at now didn't ask to see it so there is no continuity as to who is going to ask for what.

NC doesn't do paper license either. I got a certificate when I first got licensed, the kind that is meant to be framed and on a wall. But no wallet card type license. Everything is done online now.

WA state doesn't send a physical license anymore either.

Ohio no longer issues paper either, they claim its to prevent fraud in case your wallet gets stolen.

I live in Vermont. Every job I've had wanted a copy of my paper license.
