Paid Preceptorships??

Has anyone ever heard of hosps. paying for preceptorships or am I silly for asking? lmao

Are you talking about the nurse doing the precepting (the trainer) or the trainee (or preceptee)?

If you are referring to the trainee, yes, at least some hospitals do that. I am currently in a preceptorship that is paid regular/hourly.

Usually the orientee gets paid, the preceptor doesnt. It is usually part of the terms of employment that you agree to precept new staff and sit on committees as able or requested.

I wish there were pay to precept new employees. I have had someone with me most of the last 3 years ive been out of school. Started the spring following graduation with a student, and have had either a student, a intern or a new employee with me nearly every since. Probly because i dont mind and dont have fits about it.

Where I work, the orientee gets paid regular pay, and the preceptor gets a WHOLE 50 cents per hour more.

Last year, the hospital where I worked decided to pay the preceptors. They now get $500.00 after the preceptee finishes orientation.

Where I work, the preceptors get paid $1.50 per hour extra. That's the same differential as a Charge Nurse. It's been the same for about 5 years. I wish they would raise it a bit.

Most HCA hospitals in Nashville, Preceptors get a $500 bonus after the orientee has been employed full-time for 6 months. Don't tell them I'd do it for nothing, I enjoy precepting!

Hospital that i work in Az pays $400 solely to the preceptor that orientates the orientee for 6 weeks. $400 will be divided then if theres 2 preceptors and so forth...
