The nursing books we are required to have are available on pageburst which apparently allows you to download the book content to your laptop. Does anyone know how expensive this is? Are there less expensive alternatives? I've looked up the required texts elsewhere and I can get them all in text form for under $500.

Warning about Pageburst: it looks like a great idea and it downloaded to my laptop fine but then when I went to put the books I bought (Mosby's Drug Reference and Mosby's Lab Manual) on my 4th generation 32 GB iPod touch, they didn't work. There's a "known problem" and I went through six or so helpdesk people before I got a refund. I'll never try it again, it was frustrating and more expensive then regular books.
The only thing that concerns me is that we're all expected to have laptops (which I do), and I'm sure we're supposed to have the textbooks downloaded via pageburst for our lectures.

You can also access them online through the website. I went through all last semester that way. You just need the access code when you buy the package. It comes with 2 downloads and also can be downloaded onto kindles, ereaders without a problem.
How much did it cost you? I have orientation this week and the vendor is going to be there selling the "bundle" that consists of both the text and download.

I have my med surg and psych books on Pageburst. Don't like it. Yes it was a lot cheaper than getting the physical text but I'd much rather have the text. I've used ebooks before and loved them. Pageburst just sucks IMO. I loved my A&P book as an ebook, so many features (not by pageburst). Pageburst just does not have the features necessary to make it user friendly IMO. Secondly, you spend so much time studying for nursing, personally I really hate staring at a screen for that many hours. My eyes start to hurt. I'd much rather physical textbooks when it comes to nursing books.
My package cost about $500, but that included 3 huge text books: Lewis Medsurg, Potter Basic Nursing, and Pharmacology and the Drug calc text/online class. The cost included access codes. It was a package put out by the publisher which cost less than buying them individually. I will not be selling the books back, since I need them for the entire program. It's an investment.
The download will make it so you don't have to use a crate or rolling backpack to lug the books to class. You can just take your netbook and be good to go. 2 lbs vs. 40 lbs.

For our school's req'd books:
$333 for Pageburst downloads (7 books)
$496 for Textbooks- hard copy (7books)
We are also req'd to have 5 other books that aren't available in Pageburst form.
I bought all the books in hard copy off of Amazon for a lot less $$$ than what the campus bookstore charges. I'm contemplating getting the Fundamentals of Nursing book in Pageburst format as well though, so that I don't have to carry the huge book to class everyday :)
For Pageburst- our campus bookstore sold the codes for approx $100 cheaper for the package than the distributor....
$607 for the text/pageburst bundle
$333 pageburst only
$496 text only
(7 books)

We have all of our nursing books through pageburst. We are not forced to do so, but it costs us way more in the long run since if they update the textbook or come out with a new one ours gives us the new book version for free. I did not have any issues putting the stuff on my ipod and actually have saunder's drug guide and my careplan book which come in handy for clinicals. It cost me about 1400 I think but you have to take into account the fact that that I have 34 books in total on bookshelf from the package comes down to about $41/book

ive already spent a small fortune on the hardcover version of these books so why do I have to pay $77 plus just to purchase the e-book? Evolve says something about free with activation code? where can i get this activation code? I think its silly to make students purchase these hard cover books. Its all about$$$

It's free with your purchase of an access code :)
