Hi everyone! This is my first post after lurking and reading posts for over a year. My reason for posting now is because I haven't seen anything here about the current application cycle for Pacific Lutheran University's BSN program. It's located in Tacoma, WA!
My application was received by PLU on the very last day of 2016, and they sent me an email 5 days later saying they needed one more LOR and formal admission to the university. I checked in with my instructor again, and she sent the LOR very shortly after. I also got a letter from admissions saying I was admitted with a great academic scholarship just a bit smaller than the Provost. Yay!!
As of right now, I have a 3.93 cumulative GPA, 3.96 college level GPA and 3.975 in the pre-reqs. I'm also a CNA with over 3 years of experience in long-term care. I'm almost done with a pre-nursing direct transfer agreement at Green River: currently taking AP 2, Chem& 121 and two humanities/fine arts electives. In a couple weeks, I'll be registering for Microbiology, Chem&131 and two more electives for Spring quarter to finish up the degree. I guess in the meantime, I'll prepare for the long wait and keep up on my grades.
Has anyone here applied for the 2017-2018 cohort? Feel free to reach out! :)
Hi guys,
In previous years, it looks like people who applied before the deadline heard back any time until the very last day of June. If you don't hear back by then, I'd definitely call or email them! People who applied after the deadline could hear back some time after June.
I had a long conversation with my husband and realized that I could manage starting in the fall if any spots open up, so I let them know recently. I kind of wish I simply put this on the paperwork, but it is what it is. There's no telling what will happen between now and August when important things like payments are due. But what this means is that my Spring spot would open up if they let me start earlier!
Stay positive, and let us know how things go!
I too am waiting to still hear back from PLU! I have a 3.5 GPA with lots of CNA hours under my belt but I still dont feel super confident. Im waiting to get that letter in the mail as well as applying to ADN programs. I honestly just hope I get in somewhere! Congrats to all those that have heard back!
Hi Lute2021,
I am new with a Fall start, but have some insight as I've my first semester schedule already. I'm taking two general eds and Nursing Concepts I. The gen eds are 3 days a week. Nursing Concepts is also 3 days where there's lecture and lab & clinicals. The clinical portion starts nearly a month into the semester. My classes are morning to early afternoon, but I know of others where theirs go into the evening with a 7pm end time. Also, clinical may also be Saturday mornings according to my schedule. With the 3 classes, I've 13 books. I found them a lot cheaper on Amazon. I hope that's helpful.
Good Luck!
Chilli
LUTE2021, Looks like Chilli already got back to you. :)
Since I'm also new with a Spring start (I'm still placed there as far as I know) all I can tell you is I've been asking about when we're registering and etc. Looks like Fall folks know what their classes are right now, so it looks we'll find out more when registration for Spring opens up later.
Hi Chilli. Sorry for the late reply. I thought i had initially sent in a reply.. Anyways, thanks a lot for the update. So do you have the general eds the same days as your Nursing concepts? I'm looking into finding childcare that will work best with the class and clinical schedule that's why i'm asking all these questions:)
Thanks again.
Hi Lute2021,
Ya. They do overlap on one day (Wednesday), but I've classes M-F overall. (Also, a clinical time on Saturday mornings) PLU will assign clinical times to you ~ so, no choice there. However, you will choose your gen eds around your Nursing Concepts. For me, my options were limited. I think you'll have at least a month to organize childcare after you have your schedule due to J-Term.
