Over 10 years after nursing school, how do I take the NCLEX now?

Published

Hello Fellow nursing friends,

I have a question about taking the board exam. I have a friend who graduated in 2002 at Seattle Pacific University with a BSN. Unfortunately, after taking the NCLEX once and didn't pass, she gave birth to her first child and decided to stay home for a few years. It has been since 2002 that she has had any nursing experience or studies related to nursing and would now like to get back on track and continue where she left off. How and what must she do in order for her to take the NCLEX here in the state of Washington?

Chris

She should contact the Washington Board of Registered Nursing and find out what steps she needs to take in order to test. Some states require a refresher course, some require a person to repeat nursing school after a certain length of time, others only require a standard application for the license. Depends upon the state.

I think she might be required to take a refresher course. I would call the WA Dept of Health which handles RN licensing. They should be able to direct her on the requirements. Best of luck!!

Hello Pahndapher, If you have to start over (depending on what infor you get from your state board) do not give up now. If you've waited 10 years and the 'bug' is on your mind (LOL) go ahead and do what you've got to do to get there:banghead: . We are rooting for you and wish you the best of luck with whatever decision you make (we are hoping for :nurse:)) Keep us posted!
