I'm not understanding how did you work as a nurse before if you only recently passed NCLEX.
If you just recently passed NCLEX, then apply for GN/new grad positions. You might have to explain the length between graduation and passing NCLEX, but you still should be able to get new grad jobs since you passed NCLEX.

Hi tweety, thanks for replying.I was able to work In my country since i am a registered nurse there.I've been out of nursing for 4 yrs cos' i have to concentrate with several exams that i have to take just to be here in US at the same time being a mother.I arrive here in the US a year ago and took the NCLEX last july and passed.
I'm quite worried that hospital would'nt accept me and do i need to take refresher course?I applied at 2 hospitals here but it's been 2 weeks and havent receive any call.I was applying for peds.My experience in my country was in med surg.would it be possible for me to be hired in peds?
Which area do you think i have to start, since im starting nursing again?what preparations do i need?will they train me?
Thanks
suanna

At least in my area of the country Peds is a difficult area to get into without Peds experience- it's just too easy to kill a kid when you are thinking it adult terms. I bet if you applied for adult med-surg, off shift you will have plenty of nibbles. A year in practice reapply for peds if that is what you want. 4years out isn't too long- honestly 80% of what we do is common sense coupled with a pinch of educated creativity and time management. Any area you start out in is going to have it's own learning curve. If you managed to pass NCLEX I don't think you will have any more problems than any other new nurse. Good Luck!!!
Thanks...yah...that's what i'm thinking because a lot of people telling me not to go on med surg because it's really hard. the thing is, learning is there.Thats why i wanted to go on peds for a start hehehe..
Thanks for the advise.By the way, since your in medsurg will it be hard for me again to go into it?Im really worried and scared that i might don't know a lot things already.
