What a nightmare! I hope you had enough help to manage it all. Interesting that they OD'ed on it...either it they did it intentionally or they weren't aware of/or were mislead as to the concentration of the Heroin (i.e. murder)...Will be an interesting investigation indeed...that's what makes working in corrections fascinating!

Its funny that they say the correctional officers did CPR... whatever! The nurses did CPR and I called 911 twice! (Not for the guy that died... I wasnt there for that) We did bag 2 guys though!

I learned a few things working in the jail as a detention officer.
1. Whether you're an inmate, or an officer, making the news is always bad. (Unless, you make it for singing in "Jail Idol," then it's good.)
2. The news is never right. For some reason, they can never get the facts straight, or they turn them around because it makes the story sound so much more interesting. Whatever, the facts are insignificant when it comes to the news.
3. There are a lot of drugs in jail.
4. When somebody dies in jail things get really, really tense for a long time.
I'm sorry this happened. Hope you're doing all right and I hope things get back to normal for you soon.
Oh, you poor dear--I know that 'death inquiry boards' are never fun, and that IM are IM and will do whatever they do to try and beat the system--if they put that creativity to good use, they could run the country:idea:
I know this is a nightmare of paperwork and hours of interviews
Let us know how you are doing..good luck!!
Just an update!
All of the CO's that work in the 2 housing units that this happened in are being investigated.
I am SO glad that we documented in DETAIL!!
Oh, all the nurses involved, including myself got a Letter of Recognition and a Certificate of Appreciation. That was nice to get!! It goes in our personnel files!

Saturday night as we were counting we had 3 "suspected" overdoses (about 11:15pm). We had to bag 2 of them and the other was pretty bad off but was breathing. The next morning about 6am another one was found on his bunk in the fetal position... he was dead.
They locked down the prison and searched each cell and found 15 bags of heroin in one cell.
There is a BIG time investigation going on.
Needless to say I didnt get home until 2am!
