OUCH! My feet hurt!!

Hey there!

I currently work 12 hour shifts and at the end of the 12 hours my feet are killing me! I have worn orthotics since I was 17 for fallen arches, but it seems like in the past few years (and one child later) that my feet are taking quite a beating with all of the walking. After work I hobble around at home and it seems like they don't really get 100% better on my days off! I had to get a cortisone injection in my right foot between my 4th and 5th metatrsal today because my inflammation has gotten out of control recently! OK, I feel like I'm blabbing now, anyway, I think you get the idea...

My question is...

What do you all use as far as shoes? My podiatrist suggested New Balance, but I would love to hear from anyone that knows about some great supportive shoes.

Does anyone else out there experience any problems with their feet after being on their feet all day?

I will be looking forward to your input--thanks!

I wear Reebok DMX shoes. They have extra padding and it feels like you are bouncing on air when you are walking. I haven't had any trouble with them at all and I have worn them for 2 years.

I just bought a pair of Avia crosstrainers. I really like them. My husband wears the New Balance brand when he runs, he says they are really comfy.

I've found SAS and Easy Spirit shoes fit my feet well, since I wear an odd size- 6 1/2 E width (that's double wide) Between being almost as wide as long, bunions, heel spurs, and surgery, (and okay-a little extra weight on those feet), I really like the range of size/widths these offer. Usually have to ask the store to order them for me, but always available.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions, I will go armed with info and suggestions to my next appt. on Tuesday. I plan on doing a little research on the shoes you all suggested. I just hope SOMETHING works! Thanks again!

Just want to cast my vote for New Balance. Seems the toes are wider and the weight is more evenly distributed.

Rockers slip-ons (don't remember the name...they look kinda like some sports shoe, only white with a thick sole. Attractive and modern looking). Just got 'em....60 bucks....love'em. Keep them in my locker at work. They are VERY handy if I happen to be running late......they just slip on, then I'm off and going!!!

Comfortable too. I also get lots of compliments. :)

I recently bought some Rockport walking shoes. They look like regular athletic shoes, have an air pocket under the ball of the foot (in the sloe of the shoe), and have microwavable insloes to customize the fit. I'm very happy with them even tho' I had to return the first pair because of excessive squeaking. Finally, they weren't cheap, but I use them only for work.

Good luck!

Your best bet would be to try different pairs of shoes and find out which ones work best for you. New Balance are nice shoes but aren't for everyone. My personal favorites are Reebok DMX walking shoes although some models tend to do some serious squeaking. I have tried Nursemates, Rockers, Nike. Nursemates Suck that is for sure. Good luck!

I have a pair of Dansko and the arch support is awesome.I am wondering if you would be willing to take before work and after work photos of your barefeet for a research project?I just got off work and my feet are a little swollen.I work in the ER.Let me know Thanks

I had no luck with nursing shoes. my feet were always killing me by the end of a 12 hr shift. I went to a sports store to have them assess my feet. They mentioned pronation and recommended a couple different pair of running shoes. I ended up getting a pair of Brooks. Worked really great for about a year, but I feel like I need a new pair again.

Ugh i think i can really use all this advice for kinds of shoes to wear too

my feet hurts after stadning for 2 minutes!

How am i ever going to be a nurse!:crying2:
