Hi guys! Interviews started today for the May 2011 cohort, and I think I was one of the first few to interview. I know we can't talk about specific questions that were asked during the interview, but I just wanted to see if anyone would like to share their reactions/experience here.
I personally felt pretty good, I did get one "I love your answer!" so that made me feel a little more secure:D since I felt like I stumbled on this one other question. I did feel a little rushed since they told me the interview would be super short right in the beginning (did anyone else feel that way?) I didn't get a clear answer on where we will be having clinicals/classes though....
I'm sure it will be another month after interviews end until we all get mailed acceptance letters.
Any thoughts you would like to share?.....
Hi, My undergraduate degree is from Wayne - I know all too well about their politics. My sister is a CRNA and she told me her hospital actually prefers Oakland grads over other schools. I don't know how any school can say Oakland is easy to get into - they are actually raising their min. gpa to 3.2 when other schools have a 2.5. On top of that, for my class, I don't think they even took 50 - they will select only qualified candidates even if that means taking less than the seats that are open. They have a constant pool of people and move people up as they need to. I don't get this 3 year wait list either. I applied in January, interviewed in March, got accepted in April and start in January 2011. Bottom line is Oakland is strongly affiliated with Beaumont and St. Johns so keep this in mind when thinking about jobs after graduation. Outside of U of M which is tops in the state and amongst the tops in the nation, most schools are very reputable. I know a lot of them so PM me if you need specific good and bad about programs. Hang in there.
No, I don't. But the best thing to do is let nursing know you want to move up. Many times people back out at orientation for a variety of reasons and since the deposit is only $150, this probably happens more often than not. So you might be in luck. Just keep letting them know you want to move up. My guess is they probably have 4 or 5 people moved up each class. Like i said, they don't always take 50 students each interview session. I know in my class, some interviewed for May 2011 but most for January 2011. So it's interesting how they do the interview process but I have liked Oakland so far.
@ jon2000 - I'm nervous to call because the letter I received before interviews says we will hear by August 30, 2010. Also during the interview, they said don't expect to hear until the end of August. I don't want to bother them.
To all - Still no letter in my mail today. Thought I'd let you know.
Just outside looking in: If the letter stated by the end of the month, I would try to relax. As I have mentioned, they typically won't send out letters until at least 1 month after the interviews. Like I said, they may or may not send them all at once. I know one of the advisers is on leave so this may be delaying things. I am waiting on someone to get back to me and it's been over a week. I think the dept must be super busy right now. Hang in there people. It's worth the wait.

Hi AdamsMaMi,
Thanks for the words of encouragement - but I am done with all of my pre-requisites too. Ugh. I just hate to wait. Hopefully it won't be too much longer.
The U of M thing is crazy to me too. I offered quite a bit of diversity to the school, but apparently not to the extent that they wanted. I'm surprised that so many people have had a negative experience with them. Also, I agree, it's not right for other schools to bad-mouth other programs. How unprofessional. It makes me even more happy with my decision not to apply to Wayne State.
Anyways, back to waiting. Here's to another hopeful day. :)
