Other than honorable discharge

Published

Was wondering if anyone had any info on how to return to active duty if you have received an OTHD from the reserves? The recruiter I am working with seems not to know after all the paperwork and testing have been completed to go back active. I am hoping for a way, a reg or something that could help. Any advice would be appreciated. :nurse:

Depending on way you got the OTH DC it is possible to get a waiver. Because the military as a whole is not recruiting as many nurses in the past it will be tough. But if you do not try you will never know. One avenue that you might what to try is getting your DC changed before you apply for your commission. Good luck

I hope it is an anomaly in your case... everyone I've met who had an OTH DC didn't do well in the military both from that individuals perspective, as they weren't happy or successful, and from the unit's perspective, as they didn't meet job expectations or conform well. Yup - hands down I'd say it raises some flags.. but i'm sure given 'special' circumstances it was a misunderstanding. Best of luck. In fact there are quite a few that get a OTH and that is simply as because pushing the dishonorable discharge required to much paperwork and time - holding up a slot for that unit to obtain a replacement soldier to meet unit needs for an upcoming deployment. I'm sure there is a good reason for it though... I'm not judging your case as I don't know any details only my viewpoint from my experiences.

You will need to apply for an appeal to your discharge as those with OTH are barred from re-enlisting in the military. So I'd first review that process by googling OTH appeal, look at the overall process, look at the circumstances of why you earned / were given that, make a judgment call on how your case fits within the appeal process and go from there... at that point you either start the appeal to try and rejoin the army after that is completed or pass on the appeal and the opportunity...

Looking forward to finding out how that process goes - i'm sure it will be helpful information to others if you post what you find out - best of luck.

Hello

What you would need to do is to submit a request for a change in military records. You need to obtain and fill out DD Form 149 and submit it. Directions on where to send the completed form and other required paperwork (DD214) would be on the second page.

Good Luck to you. I hope things work out for you.
