I am moving back to Ohio (Columbus Area) and have my eye on OSU Medical Center or Ohio Health? I am an ER Nurse and prefer Level I. Hopefully I can connect with someone who works at either or can offer any information? I am already in a hospital and "if I had know then what I know now...." I wouldnt be here! What about the cost of living even?? My sister-in-law suggested Westerville? My old Pastor lives in Grove City?? Any thoughts?

Any help would be great!

Hi. I'll move your question to the Ohio Nurses Forum where you can hone in on the locals there.

If you want Level I your only choices are OSU and Grant (or Children's if you want peds). OSU is unionized. Grant is in the middle of the inner city. My best friend works at OSU in the ER. Granted she's a social worker but she doesn't speak too highly of OSU. Loves the nurses...hates being part of a big university system where nothing gets done without a lot of red tape. Plus she's not fond of the chaos and if anybody can handle chaos its her. She also worked at Grant, again in the ER. Liked it pretty well but her boss was a nutcase. Grant is part of Ohio health. They also have Riverside which has a huge Level II ER and just opened a brand spanking new hospital in Dublin which is beautiful but literally opened last week. There is also the Mount Carmel Health System (East, West and St. Ann's). East is equivalent to Riverside in size and is also Level II. West is slightly smaller more inner city and again Level II. St. Ann's is suburban (Westerville) not a trauma center but smokin' busy (they see similar numbers to both East and Riverside with half the beds). Plus they get all the unstable traumas from Delaware, Morrow and Licking county that are too sick to make it into the city. I choose to drive 2 hours to a different city to work. As far as living goes. Westerville is nice. College town and taxes aren't terrible. Decent school system. Grove City also nice. More rural in personality. No idea about the taxes or school system. Dublin is expensive with great schools. Worthington and Clintonville have expensive housing (they're land-locked") but are nice. Worthington schools are okay. Clintonville is Columbus public...not okay. Also look at Hilliard. I think your choice will depend a lot on where you end up working. Traffic can be horrible but for the most part you can get just about anywhere in 20 minutes as long as it's not rush hour which is from about 0630-0900. You'll probably be able to buy a house for a song if you buy in a development as the real estate bubble exploded here. But you may not be able to sell it in 5 years if you decide to relocate so be very careful where you buy. If there are a lot of for sale signs in the neighborhood...RUN! I have an old house (about 100 years) in my neighborhood the houses sell before the signs are in the yard because there aren't literally thousands of them available. Hope this helps. PM me if you want more info or more specific info. I have more info I'd rather not post publicly.

Hi! Wow! Thanks for the info! I do have more questions however. What does PM mean?? How do I do that?

Specializes in Med-Surg, Geriatric, Behavioral Health.

Anmarie, PM means Private Message. You can privately connect to any member in this fashion if you need to contact him/her regarding questions off the open board. Just click his/her username at the top left of his/her post...obtain the drop down menu, choose "View Public Profile". It will take you to it. Then view the section, "Contact Info". There you will see the link to send that member a private message.

Hope this was helpful.
