OSU Hospitals vs. Ohio Health

Published

 Has anyone worked at either the Ohio State University Hospital or the Ohio Health System in Columbus, Ohio?

If so, what did you like or didn't like about each? Were you valued as a nurse, or were you treated poorly?

If you worked there before, would you work there again, or recommend anyone else to work there?

All comments welcome! Thank you. :kiss

I traveled to Riverside Methodist which is a part of Ohio Health and loved it. It was my best assignment and I would go back. I worked the neuro floor (6Tower). I don't know anything about the OSU hospital but heard good things about it. Very good choices in Columbus and always something to do!

I worked at OSU Medical Center for the last year. I was on the 8th floor- cardiac. It is a great place to work. Lots of very friendly/supportive staff- very traveler friendly. Good nurse/pt ratio on that floor. I only worked nights, so had little contact with management, docs (excpet residents on call- which were very good). I had no compalints. Columbus is a great town!

I work at University Hospital in Cleveland and LOVE it! It is a wonderful place to work....I'm not sure how the UH in Colombus compares. :D

Though I haven't worked as a nurse in either health care system, I have been a patient in both and I have worked for Ohio Health before. Though there is something to be said for working in a teaching hospital like OSU (in fact, I'm going to be attending nursing school there in the fall), I really liked working for Riverside. I found them to be great employer. In addition, my family and I have all received care at great care at Riverside and also had some less than pleasant experiences with the OSU hospital system.

If I were to travel again, I would definitely consider going to Ohio State again. I did three assignments for them in the past, and they were very "traveler friendly" then too. :)

Riverside is also an excellent place to be employed from what I knew about them during the time I lived in Columbus.

Best of luck to you! :nurse:

I believe OSU is union and Ohio Health is not. I know that is very important to some people.

OSU is a union workplace and they have applied for magnet status and they specialize in research. I had many of my clinicals at Riverside (ohiohealth) and have good and bad things to say about that system. I work for Mt. Carmel and love it. I think all 3 hospital systems are pretty equal with their good and bad points - the most important thing I can say is to pick a hospital system that allows you room to grow and try to pick the system you will stay with so you can build your benefits - so look for some place with lots of options that appeal to you in case you want to change units down the road. Also an important factor is how well you fit in the environment and a great manager can make any unit a great place to work. You can email me if you want any info on Mt. Carmel. Good luck!! P.S. Mt. Carmel has a 10% raise across the board comming in Feb. for all bedside nurses - starting pay for new grads now is 19.51 but will go up 10% the end of Feb.
