Congratulations! What, in your personal estimation, was the level of difficulty of the certification exam?

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being "impossible," I would give it either a 6 or 7. I studied for about six weeks and I used the NAON Orthopaedic Review Course and Orthopedics Made Ridiculously Simple. I also reviewed all of the practice questions on the NAON Orthopaedic Nursing Self-Assessment CD (and looked up anything I was unfamiliar with). My manager let me borrow the NAON materials. Otherwise, I would highly recommend printing out the ONC exam description (ONC Exam Description » Orthopaedic Nursing Certification Board Orthopaedic Nursing Certification Board) and using the "Simple" book and the CD for 600 practice questions.

You should be proud. That is not only hard work but takes a lot of self discipline. I did my certification years ago as maternal-newborn nurse and boy I was surprised how much respect one gets for certification specialties. It amazing what you learn that you did not learn in nursing school. It is more fun studying for this as a group though. I might need your advice as thinking on arthroscopy during winter break from teaching clinical as I just found out I have a torn meniscus and MCL tear but support devices worsen the pain. Any suggestions?

Any chance you would want to sell the self assessment software? its not currently available on NAON website

Do you still remember any tips on the ortho certification test? any advice would be helpful! I have the book but do not really have the money to purchase the practice tests online! Thanks

Most of the test is common sense. Know the degenerative diseases and peds complications from braces. Pharmacology that you use every day as an ortho nurse. That's what I can remember. It was a lot less difficult than I thought it was going to be.
