Orientation: What was your experience?

Well since no one seems to be answering you...I will. Not exactly sure what orientation for you will be like but all mine was (last year) was arriving at a large college, trying like heck to find the place I was supposed to go, sitting in a classroom with complete strangers lol, listening to professors drone on about nursing and how the college came into being, (history etc.).... then being shuttled to another classroom to get paperwork and from there to a large gymnasium for photo id pics, and payment of tuition. It took the entire day and was stressful for me. I did not meet any instructors, just stood in a lot of lineups lol.

That is about it!!

just came across this, orientation was fine. we sat in the auditorium and went through a few faq and need to know things. i liked the way it was set up for them to take our papers and register us all together rather than fighting myself to register. any issues were looked at an addressed on the same day. we did not meet all the faculty but having a few there was pleasant.

i felt a little overwhelmed at first sitting with all those students but after we broke up into our small groups it was good to see who would be in my class and who were the fellow future nurses i probably will be working with at some time or other. i'm am super excited to start classes and scared at the same time. i've been waiting for the call back for a year and these last two weeks just seem to drag on. i'm sure i'll be crying later on.

I just went to mine yesterday. We got paperwork done and heard a bit from some of the instructors. I met a few students who I will be in class with and we ordered uniforms. It was a good day, but it also made me even more nervous. They kept talking about how things are going to change. I am going again today for the refresher courses. Today is voluntary and I wanted to take advantage of any help they offer. I wish my stomach would just relax:icon_roll

I had a really good orientation, we had ours in May.

They had some of the senior year students talking about what we should expect, how to prepare, how to have fun, what to expect, and some funny stories about clinicals and class. It was really neat to hear from them!

The instructors talked about all the stuff we needed to buy, shots, how important it is to workout, ATI testing, background checks, nursing student handbook, just that sort of general thing.

Someone from the hospitals came and talked about how they could help pay for school.

We had booths set up to view uniforms, stethoscopes, shoes, lab coats, school nursing gear (t-shirts, hoodies, etc), free stuff from Arny Nursing (lab value books, tshirts, etc), cookies and drinks, and the junior and senior NS were sitting at tables so we could talk to them. They gave away prizes as well, everything from nursing books (drug guides, etc) to clothes to stuff from the hospitals, etc.

We had a blast!

i got direct admission to the college of nursing so my "home base" is the college of nursing and the university college.

@ my orientation we went around the campus and took a tour...then we took a tour of the college of nursing. we didn't get to meet any of the instructors except for one, and she was really nice. it was overall a good experience but those that were also in my orientation group weren't really friendly... =/ i think it's because everyone is new and nervous. but still. i'm just afraid everyone is going to be like that! =(

I had an impression like that during my orientation for the nurse internship/job that I have now. On the first day, before we figured out that it was okay to breathe, things were pretty tense. After we relaxed, I made great friends with the other interns and we're still good buds several months later. I'm hoping you guys have the same experiences.

I had orientation 8 to 3:30 today and will go back to go over the syllabus tomorrow from 9-12. We got to meet all the instructors (for all 4 semesters), talked about stress relief, study tips, and what to expect. What was really cool was they ordered a bunch of pizzas for our lunch and brought in about 7 students who just completed the 1st semester last spring to talk to us abother their experiences. It was a lot of info, and scared us a little, but I am still soooo excited. I think the scariest part was finding out we will be reading the entire Fundamentals of Nursing textbook in just the first semester. Eek!

I'm really looking forward to my orientation, which is next Monday and Tuesday. I really don't know what to expect because this is the first year my school has offered a nursing program, so it's a brand new program. I'll be in the first graduating class! I'm really excited about it.

Our orientation was great! Our professors, the Dean, and other semester students were there. We went over tons of paperwork, ordered uniforms, took tour of building (skills lab, computer lab, etc). I was really impressed with everything I saw and how much the professors want you to succeed. They gave away lots of door prizes (even textbooks!!) and had a BBQ for us.

I loved meeting the other students and even meet some that will be in my clinicals. It was energizing to be amongst other students and faculty.

I was pretty nervous after the orientation because my mind was swirling with everything we'd gone over. It's been about 2 weeks now and the nerves have settled a bit......I'm ready to get this show on the road! :)

My orientation is the day before class starts!!!!
