Hello,
I have accepted an offer for my dream job in a level 3 NICU. Yay!! Wondering how long of an orientation should be reasonably expected?
thanks!

New grad? my orientation was 6 months
Yup. New Grad. I did a 3 month student practicum in there as well but still wanted to gage what the standard responses were.
Thanks for your reply!

Ours is 12 weeks in the unit, with other weeks of practicum. When you are off orientation you are still assigned to a nurse to be your buddy for another 3 months.

Congrats on getting your dream job. In my last facility that had a NICU it was 6 months for new grads. I worked across the hall in L&D which was also 6 months for new grads. Best of luck!

My orientation was 2 weeks of classroom teaching, 12 weeks of buddy shifts with another RN, and then another 6 weeks or so of "mentoring" (you had your own patient assignment, but another nurse in the pod was assigned to be your mentor in case you had any questions or needed help). Of course, the orientation length differed for each new hire depending in prior experience.
