"The name is bond...ionic bond; taken not shared." That's what my old chemistry teacher used to say.
It's my last prerequisite that I have to complete with at least a 2.0 or better before I start nursing courses in the summer. Pressure is somewhat off because I've already been accepted into my program, but I still want to do well.
Anybody else taking it this quarter/semester? It's been about 6 years since I took inorganic/general chemistry, so it's a tad bit overwhelming for me at the moment. I've been sitting in lecture trying to remember all the things that I've repressed. Chemistry is by far my worst subject. Misery loves company though and I'm hoping to share some of mine with other people. :) In all honesty, it doesn't seem as bad as general chem. It's a lot less math.
Here's to doing well in organic chem this term!

Intro to o-chem/biochem = easiest class ever...I wouldn't worry about it. Most people who had a hard time in inorganic chem usually does very well in o-chem because there is no math involved. You can easily do well in o-chem if you know the basics of chemistry. Mostly, you're learning about nomenclature and rxns.
Thanks! That's a huge relief hearing that. I think you may have just made my entire quarter. It's funny...that's the exact name of the class I'm taking, "Intro to o-chem/biochem."

I'm taking BioChem this fall. I am glad to hear it's not too bad. I'm going to be rereading my Chem book this summer to refresh my memory.
Good luck with your class j450n!

Intro to Organic/Biochem. was so much better than the nightmare that was Inorgranic Chem. lol. I did well in it and *gasp* it was even enjoyable now and then. So you'll do well. Just try to get over the fear of Chem. that was instilled in you b/c of Gen. Chem. It was hard for me to do that for awhile. You'll do well and if you ever have any questions send me a PM :)
I like your teacher's quote btw

I'm taking it right now as well. Unfortunately it's a huge lecture hall with something like 400 students (probably more) and the professor has an accent and sometimes speaks so quickly it's hard to catch what he's saying. And then I guess b/c of the size of the class, each exam is only 20 multiple choice questions. So 3 wrong and that's already down to an 85. He does curve the test though, so there is that.
I took the course in high school so I'm familiar with it all the rxns and nomenclature, but I was kind of arrogant at the beginning of the semester because of that and got an 82 on the first test. Woops! I brought it up with the most recent one and got an 87, but that averages to just a B and the final grade is the average of your three highest test scores out of the 4 given. Hopefully on the the upcoming test I can bring my grade up.

Use the free instructional videos at the Khan Academy website (http://www.khanacademy.org/). I took o-chem last quarter and got an A, all thanks to this guy's videos. He's also great for some micro, general bio, and certainly any math class you'll need. If I'd known about his videos a year ago, I'd have a 4.0 for all my science and math prereqs.
I know this looks like spam, but it's not. I'm just like everyone else on here, busting my butt to get into nursing school (letters go out in about 3 weeks!). I'm telling you, Salman Khan is a godsend to anyone taking classes.
Anyway, I hope it helps. His electron transport chain/Krebs cycle videos especially saved me in micro and o-chem last quarter.
BTW, anyone else waiting to hear from SJSU for Fall '10?

Intro to Organic Chemistry is not the O-Chem that every bio major, premed, and prevet has to suffer through and is the hardest 200-level class/sequence anyone ever takes. (I say this having fit two of the three categories as an undergrad). You'll do fine.

I totally second the kahn academy recommendation! I'm using it right now for my bio class, and will be using it in the fall for organic chem! It it really helpful, even just to hear it explained in a different way than the way your instructor/the textbook describes things.
