Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I am looking at potential nursing schools and I have a question that I would like to

ask of those who have either taken or are preparing to take the NCLEX.

Would you consider applying to a nursing school that has a 79-80% pass rate on the

NCLEX?

I went to an Open House at the school and I really liked the staff and spoke honestly with the current students. They all said that it was an extremely hard curriculum and

that you get out of it what you are willing to put into it. I guess that would be the case with any nursing school....

The pass rate is not always the fault of the staff. When a local college, with a low pass rate, decided to give ENTRANCE exams, that culled out a lot of people. Now the pass rate is up because the students are all able to perform academically.

I wouldn't let the NCLEX pass rate sway my decision on a school... The school I went to had been having a 95% pass rate.. But these were classes that graduated 40+ students, where my class graduated with 20 students, we had 3 fail boards and that dropped the percentage that year to 85%... And our school is one of the top in the state...

Thank you Purplemania. This school does not have an entrance exam either.

I thought all nursing schools had one until I started looking at this school. I took the NET for my CC and they have a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX. Do you think it is a good or a bad thing that there is no entrance exam requirements for this school? The thing I really like about the selection process is that they don't review any applications until the due date. Then, they present those with the highest gpa and required prereqs before the admissions committee first. I have maintained a 3.8gpa and will have all of the required classes done before the deadline. I really believe I have a good shot at getting into this program.

Thank you Ortho_RN. I am going to apply to this school. I believe I have the tools to get through nursing school. I can't explain why nor worry about the drop in NCLEX pass rates but I can make sure that I am successful in nursing school. God willing, I will get a letter, telegraph, phone call, or carrier pigeon from my first school of choice. If not, I will strive to be a success at whichever school offers me a slot. Wish me luck!
