Opinions on Affordable Care Act?

Hi allnurses! Love this website!

I'm finishing up nursing school, and need opinions from any nurses on questions relating to the Affordable Care Act for a project. Everything is anonymous...feel free to give a pen name :) you can write a lot or a little...anything helps!

If anyone has time to share their opinions, I would be so grateful! Thank you so much!

Here are the questions:

  1. What are the major problems with the US healthcare system today from your perspective?

  2. How effective has the Affordable Care Act been in addressing these problems so far?

  3. What major trends do you see occurring in the health care system in the next 5-10 years?

  4. What changes would you like to see in the system and how can they be brought about?

  5. What do you see your role as in improving health and health care? (Please state your title, years worked, and department).

I assume you professor didn't mean for this to be done online. Plus you can't verify you are actually talking to a nurse.

OrganizedChaos, thank you for your reply. Format doesn't matter, it's just a casual interview. I understand that I cannot verify-our interviewee had to drop out last minute due to family emergency. Any responses I receive would be greatly helpful & there is no need for me to have to verify-in fact, we can interview anyone in any way involved in healthcare (any roles). Thanks for your help!

I would suggest going to anywhere there are nurses & interviewing them. You need to interview anyone in the healthcare field.

But what I am saying, you cannot verify that you are talking to a nurse or anyone in the healthcare field. The person on the other end of the computer could be a bus driver or car salesmen.

Plus an interview is something you do in person, to get the interaction. Some things you can't do over the computer.

The purpose of these assignments, aside from teaching a student how to do research, is to get her/him out into the world of nurses and interact with them in real time. "Interviewing" people on an anonymous forum is, in my opinion, a form of intellectual laziness. You're better off speaking with nurses at your local hospital, LTCs, and other settings in order to get their perspectives. Best of luck to you in your endeavors.

Thank you for your reply! As I said in the other post, we have been out and about contacting many nurses we know-we had a person ready to go, but due to a family emergency she backed out last minute.

As students, we are not permitted to barge onto a facility to find people without permission granted from our school. This situation of trying to get opinions online is not a wanted one, nor is us being 'lazy' as you stated, but rather the result of an emergency situation.

We are simultaneously reaching out to healthcare professionals we know to get in person interviews, but most are currently busy and may not be able to get back to us in such a quick turn-around time. Thus, we are seeking for anyone to share his/her opinions online...all we need is a few casual quotes from anyone involved in healthcare to supplement our research.

The American nurses and state nurses associations are strong advocates of health care reform, have you tried asking your state nurses association your questions?

It is highly unlikely anyone will answer an interview since an interview, by nature, is done in person.

If you are not willing to do the leg work, after a lot of good advice, then we cannot help you.

It also blows my mind that people think they can come to this forum & "interview" a nurse & hope they aren't lying & that you can't some how find someone in the healthcare field to interview.

If you can't make an appointment with your doctor, try a walk in clinic.

I thought this might be a similar thread to the $15 minimum wage/free education and how they would (or in Future DNP's words, how they definitely will) affect nurses.

At least with lightpinkrose's post it's transparent that it's homework. How do readers know if Future DNP's posts are homework or general discussions?

This is actually very possible. I work in a family Ned clinic and I let our patients who are nursing students come in to interview is and our providers a lot. We actually had one just last week. They get the chance to interview myself, our charge nurse if she is around and our providers if they're not super busy (two MDs and two NPs).
