Opinions on Affordable Care Act?

Nursing Students Student Assist

Hi allnurses! Love this website!

I'm finishing up nursing school, and need opinions from any nurses on questions relating to the Affordable Care Act for a project. Everything is anonymous...feel free to give a pen name :) you can write a lot or a little...anything helps!

If anyone has time to share their opinions, I would be so grateful! Thank you so much!

Here are the questions:

  1. What are the major problems with the US healthcare system today from your perspective?

  2. How effective has the Affordable Care Act been in addressing these problems so far?

  3. What major trends do you see occurring in the health care system in the next 5-10 years?

  4. What changes would you like to see in the system and how can they be brought about?

  5. What do you see your role as in improving health and health care? (Please state your title, years worked, and department).

I thought this might be a similar thread to the $15 minimum wage/free education and how they would (or in Future DNP's words, how they definitely will) affect nurses.

Slightly disappointed to see it's a homework post.

At least with lightpinkrose's post it's transparent that it's homework. How do readers know if Future DNP's posts are homework or general discussions?

Hi WKShadow, great idea but likely not possible due to the time constraint we are on...we are just looking for a few sentences of casual opinions/thoughts. Thank you!

This is actually very possible. I work in a family Ned clinic and I let our patients who are nursing students come in to interview is and our providers a lot. We actually had one just last week. They get the chance to interview myself, our charge nurse if she is around and our providers if they're not super busy (two MDs and two NPs).

And time constraints are sometimes worse when they spring up all of a sudden.

I kid.

The OP stated her contact had to drop out unexpectantly.

For future reference, always have a back up.

This practice saved my time in NP school as my first preceptor was not completely approved by the host organization to take me on as an FNP student, even though the school said, and the preceptor said, OK, go ahead.

BAM! Back up notified and paperwork approved in time.

Something just occurred to me...since you HAVE a contact, it is implied that you know this person. While interviews should be in person, circumstances have made that more difficult. However, as someone who you can verify as a health care professional, maybe email your questions and get her thoughts. That way you have a reliable source and don't have to seat it. It's less ideal, but better than nothing and certainly better than an anonymous forum.

An email or a phone call would do great! You know this person & should your professor ask questions as where does she work or what are her credentials, you can provide it.
